Leonie, I was thinking of you when our family came up with a family motto for this year .
Here's our motto for 2007: Keep swinging.
After we talked about our New Year's resolutions, we wanted to sum things up and it was interesting how we all felt like we just needed to keep doing what we are doing, even when it is difficult. Keep swinging is our short version of this quote from Hank Aaron:
“My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.”
Are there any other family mottos out there?
Love,

I love it, Angie.
I am struggling right now, with older kids leaving, but our family motto this year is - TRUST. BE NOT AFRAID.
My personal mottoes for 2007 are -
WATCH WHAT GOES INTO MY MOUTH AND WATCH WHAT COMES OUT.
SEE ONLY THE POSITIVES IN MY DH AND DC.
These last two are written in the front page of my diary/planner.

Since I started training for longer running races (about a year ago), my personal motto has been:
One foot in front of the other.
I found this motto has really helped me as I have been researching catholicism as well. In fact, it has been a wonderful motto for so much of my life!
If ever I start a blog, that motto will be my blog name.

We don't have a family motto - yet - (I love this idea! ) but my personal motto for this year is a quote I recently learned by St. Stanislaus Kostka:
"I find a heaven in the midst of saucepans and brooms."
This is my goal this year. To truly embrace and perservere in the work with which I have been blessed.

I've just come from Leonie's thread about older children leaving.....my oldest is 12 but it will come and soon enough (I am always thinking, 'in another 12 years he will be 24 )
In the years gone by with my ill health and lots of health expenses (money being siphoned from holiday budget ) we never seem to get away, when my dh has holidays, it only started happening -getting away - for the first time last year after good friends lent us their sea front unit at the Gold Coast - it made us realise the great family togetherness it creates.
We have made a 'motto' this year (and always)- never to stay home on holidays again - even if it is camping on friends/family's properties! For this is what we are now planning to do this February - go to Victoria for 3 weeks and camp on my cousin's farm and day trip from there. It is a beautiful part of the world (a bit burnt out in areas due to recent bushfires! )
It is an important motto, to 'smell the roses' with our family and after reading Leonie's thread the importance of it has hit me even more.
God Bless, Anne

Our family has had our motto "by default" for many years now. Default as in it's one of those things we said so often that it is a part of who we are. Or at least who we hope we come to be.
"Family takes care of family."
I have a friend that says it sounds like an old-world mafia slogan.
