In an effort to "simplify" I'm trying to narrow down my magazine subscriptions this year. Confession, I'm a magazine addict of sorts and hope to just glean from the best of the best.
I think I've narrowed it down to four catagories and I'm curious as to what are your favorites. If I'm missing a favorite catagory of yours please add it.
Family/Parenting
Home/Garden
Cooking
Craft
This is my first post on this forum other than my intro, so if I'm doing this all wrong, please forgive!
Blessings,
Kelly

My children anxiously await the arrival of Reminisce each month. (we get the Reminisce Extra too) We just love the stories of the good old days and it has been a sort of substitute grandparent for them.

We get several magazines that would have to fall under a Sustainable Living/Country Living category. And we...uh, he...gets magazines in the Hunting/Fishing area. Also don't forget the Discover/National Geographic arena.
Yeah, we need to cut WAY back on the magaine subscriptions. I think we get 15 a month? Just about one every other day. At least we haven't paid for ALL of them.

Kelly, you're doing A-OK!
Magazines are a problem for me. I am positively addicted. But I will list what I like in each category you mentioned.
Family/Parenting:
Faith & Family - it!
Mothering - I don't always agree with every article or opinion, but I like the natural, non-mainstream approach to parenting. It is very homeschool-friendly.
Martha Stewart Kids - Sadly, oop now. But I have every issue saved!
Home/Garden:
Martha Stewart Living - My favorite!
Real Simple - Great ideas.
Herb Quarterly - I like the crafts, folklore and herbal remedies.
Cooking:
Everyday Food
The Baking Sheet Newsletter
Crafts:
Martha Stewart always has lots of craft ideas
and ...
I love magazines like Spin-Off and Interweave Gifts but I only pick them up occasionally because A. they're expensive and B. I really have no business reading them - I am not in that league of crafting!

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I requested a sample of Faith and Family magazine a few weeks ago and am looking forward to receiving it. I also get Martha Stewart's publications.
I think I've seen "Herb Quarterly" at our library. Maybe I can get a peek at it there.
New question, what do you do with all your mags? I need a new way to organize all of them so I can get to the info when I need it.
Blessings,

Kelly, I save the Martha mags and the rest become fodder for my journals. I used to save many more of them (Family Fun, Mary Engelbreit, Country Living), but our basement couldn't take it. Now I clip anything I like - full length articles go in files, anything smaller like images or small boxes of text get taped into my journal, which is just a big 5-subject notebook. It's not the slickest way to organize information, but it works for me.

Let's see... magazines that are currently scattered about the boat are:
Boatworks
SAIL Magazine
Latitudes & Attitudes available on-line but cruisers leave port and don't forward subscriptions leaving them for us!
Martha's that I'm ripping up, too many ads.
Cooking Light also ripping up.
Smithsonian pasteing into Marianna's Timeline
Astronomy
Cruising World
Practical Sailor
Gosh! What a list, and I only subscribe to the first one!

I have noticed recently my magazines increasing
How did that happen? Our mailbox see's Cooking Light(a gift from my Mom), Runners World(gift from my brother to me!--and I have realized, I'm not going to be in that mode anytime soon ), Faith and Family(love it, love it, love it!), Family Fun(gift from SIL)and Mothering. The kids get Magnifikid, Big Backyard, Highlights(another gift), My Friend(another gift), Turtle(gift)---I got it, the increase in the mailbox is gifts! Whew!!
I'd like to cut back as when you add in the weekend paper I cannot keep up!!
All are tossed after being read with select pages filed for recipes or reference.

country living (from a girlfriend)
martha stewert living
national geographic

magnifikids
ask (from aunt)
sometimes i buy real simple and think about getting a subscription, but there are so many ads and my library carries it. i used to get mothering, but have let the lapse. i have also gotten herb quaterly but let that lapse as well. i just don't have much time to sit and read, and when i do, i tend to read blogs.
i am going to add birds and blooms as a gift to my oldest son.
