Last year at this time I asked about coffee makers. I'm looking for something 10-12 cup, with a stainless steel thermal carafe, no grinder. Dh wants to get a new coffee pot finally, so I'm asking opinions.
I've seen Bunn, Braun, and Cuisinart. Alice mentioned a Bunn she has, but they are different models now. I'm reading reviews and the seal and the warmth on the carafe isn't too good on the Bunn. Anyone have a Cuisinart? Williams Sonoma sells those brands, and I think Starbucks, too.
I'm not looking for cheap, I'm looking for good coffee, that doesn't go bitter or cold. One of my pet peeves of the Mr. Coffee is that my coffee keeps cooking, and fills the house with old coffe smell.

I love the Cuisenart. The thermal carafe is great...no burnt taste, just hot coffee for hours. And I don't have to worry about burning the house down by leaving the coffee pot on all day! I bought mine from Williams Sonoma almost 3 years ago. We really love the programmable feature. A few months ago, the pump broke, and Williams Sonoma replaced the whole machine at no charge. This time, we "upgraded" to the grinder variety. I also really like this model, however, there are certainly a few more steps and more cleaning than the traditional just-add-grounds model.

I have a Bunn stainless with a thermal carafe. It makes awesome coffee in a flash!! If I do half a pot for just me in the morning, by the time I have gotten my mug and cream out, the pot is DONE!! Can't beat that!   BUT, my carafe does leak when pouring into a cup (I pour over the sink) and after an hour or two, the coffee is no longer piping hot, just very warm--the Cusinart sounds great...

What Bunn model do you have, Jennifer? Is it the same as Alice's?

I think I do have the same one as Alice...at the Bunn website, it looks like they have only one stainless steel insulated carafe model and they have changed the look, mine does everything this one does, though, looks almost exactly the same...

Jenn, I just thought I'd chime in with my Cuisinart experience. We have the grind-and-brew with regular carafe, so it's not the model you are looking for, but I can tell you I am completely satisfied with the quality of the machine, and my coffee is absolutely wonderful (if I may say so myself! ).
They do make a thermal carafe variety of the grind-and-brew, but there is just something about "seeing" that rich, dark liquid dripping into the post I can't live without!

I should have posted to thank you all for your advice. While I was leaning heavily toward Alice's, dh wanted something we could buy then and there. This Cuisinart was the winner, but we found it at Costco for $50 less. That was the clincher.
I love it....the carafe is just what I wanted. I can take it to the table and pour, it stays warm for HOURS, and no yucky smell of old coffee through the house. My coffee tastes great!

Ooh, Jenn, I am so happy for you! This is the make we have (though regular glass carafe, not thermal). I'm off to make another cup for myself - math can wait!

Now I know what to put on my list when my new coffee maker goes on the fritz (sp??)
I have to admit that I have been dreaming of a coffeemaker with a carafe so my coffee wouldn't get that old taste -- although, the eventual taste of burnt coffee is what keeps me from drinking more coffee than I should No self-disciplne here!
Hope you're enjoying your cup of coffee as much as I'm enjoying mine!

I am, thanks to your tip about the Arabica beans. I tested your theory and I agree! My coffee experience is so much better.
But I admit...I'm a mostly decaf kind of gal. I enjoy the taste, but can't do all the caffeine.

Oh I'm glad! I should try mixing decaf beans and loaded beans -- I don't think I could give ip the caffeine, but that might be healthier.
