Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you write a missive every year to send out to your Christmas card recipients?

I am just about to start my 19th! annual Christmas newsletter..........I am SO behind this year......I usually am putting it in the mail by this time!

I was wondering if any of you write one..........and if you would like to post it here, to share with friends. I would put a lot of you on my Christmas card list.........if I could afford all of those stamps!

I thought this might be an easier way to share.....

what do you think?

I'm game if someone else is game

of course........you probably need to know that mine is now four........or is it five????.........pages long

......off to write!

I just finished typing mine tonight!    It has a lot of photos so I need to get heavier paper before I print them out.

How would we post them here? Upload them to the web as a .doc that would be downloaded/opened? I will have to make a few adjustments because mine has address and phone number updates in it.

I'll do it, just let me know how.

Blessings,
Krisann

as for uploading........I am not sure.......anyone know?

Do you see a document icon with an arrow on the far right of the message-posting toolbar? That's how to upload Word documents.

I didn't write a holiday letter this year, but my uncle & aunt wrote one that was really cute - they set it up like a quiz "What do you know about the XYZ family?" and each paragraph included multiple choice "A,B,C" answers. It was obvious which answer was correct - but it was a fun way to share information about their family.

So glad to hear you all do this. I have been reading articles in the paper for the past 2 weeks about how awful these letters are. I write one each year to keep faraway family and friends involved in our lives. I was beginning to feel like these people wouldn't like my letters anymore-though no one said that I figure while the kids are young and growing and changing it was a good thing. I didn't blab on and on over awards and all the achievements of the family. Just normal everyday stuff. I also only send it to select people-if you live nearby and you are pretty involved in our life you usually don't get one-parents always get one even though they visit often
Anyhow, glad to hear people still do this and have long ones, too--5 pages!, more kids than me I would think--mine is only 2 pages. I'll try to figure out how to put mine up wherever and blogless me can feel like you all know me a little better
You all have a Merry Christmas!

we usually do one every other year. My dh does them and they are good. I do the picture card type thing. We trade off every other year so we each get to do what we want to. That meant that this year was a photo card because it was my turn.

Isn't that odd? Do you think it's just a negative reaction to family life in general? I LOVE Christmas letters, even brag letters! Letters are meant to be fun and a way to share a little bit of ourselves with those we care about.

I have heard some people voice complaints about the Christmas letters being too impersonal and that the people you would send them out too should really know what's going on in your life already. I wonder if they are from smaller families and don't know how difficult it is to keep up on everything everyone is doing. Or maybe they are making excuses as to why they don't do one. I personally love getting the letters. We are so far away from home and it is hard to keep up with my siblings not to mention my 50 some cousins. I like them so much that I have been inspired to do one this year.

Yes!! I love them, too. I actually keep a scrapbook-the only one I can keep up--of letters and photos people send at Christmas. Our letter and photo is usally the first page for each year and then the others follow. I have consulted the old letters often for birthdates, trips dates, marriage dates, etc. We also love seeing how kids grow and change over the years--and occasionally us adults

What a fun idea to do a scrapbook of the letters you get! I'm never sure what to do with the cards, etc.

I just did my first Christmas letter ever this year...I was a bit discouraged at first though, because I when I first started looking online about them, it seemed that they had a negative stigma. But, I *love* it when people send them to me, so I figured I may as well!

Every year I go through this should we do one-should we not thing... but then two weeks into Advent and I haven't sent half the cards? we usually resort to one. I, for one, LOVE getting them! So I hope the people we send them to like them too -- to anyone who doesn't, I say, Bah, Humbug!

Eh. If they don't like it they can always throw it away. I certainly appreciate people saying more than just

Dear

Love

and sign their names. Now THAT'S impersonal.

We'll post ours in our family blog, but can't yet because I have to get the pics together.

Uh, where is the "message posting toolbar"? Not sure I am looking in the right place. And how would we read the letters--do they just get posted here?

I love getting Christmas letters and we always have fun writing our own. Each year we try to pick a theme or unusual angle ... last year it was "A Musical Review of the Year", with each section headed by a song title (Dancing Queen for the girls' dancing, Teach Your Children Well for homeschooling, that sort of thing!). This year Naomi wrote it

It might be a moderator tool. let me ask. if so, we might need to hold off intil after Christmas.I don't want the moderators inundated with letters to upload.

This year, I sent photo cards only to people whom I know read my blog regularly. They already know all our news. I reserved letters for people who don't read the blog. The cards have been ready for weeks. Still haven't written the letter.
