Anyone have this toy?
Fantasia by Haba
I just ordered it in the wee hours last night for my 5yo dd, and was wondering if anyone had seen this or actually have it that can give me an opinion.
I love shopping online, but I hate not being able to hold the items in my hands before buying, kwim?

I don't have it, but it sure looks cute, Theresa. Haba are the bead people, aren't they? My son has a tiny set where he can arrange and rearrange the beads to make patterns. If he wants to keep the beads in one pattern, he can bake it for a few minutes.

I dont know about the beads. These seem to be wooden pieces with magnetic backs. At least I hope that is what they are!

OK. Call me crazy.  We just bought a little $1.00 kit at Joanne's with beads on a sort of thistle-topped board and my guy can make all kinds of patterns on it. I could've sworn it had HABA on the package.
I *did* find beads at this site, but they are much larger than what we have and wooden. I also found beautiful wooden Nativity sets. Yikes! I could spend so much money online. 
Anyway, I *still* like what you ordered. And I like online shopping, too. Self control, self control, self control.

I don't know about the specific toy you mentioned, and I couldn't tell a lot about the magnets from the website, but I just wanted to mention I have read several reports of children getting very ill and a few have died as a result of swallowing magnetic toy pieces. There was a prayer request here for a little one who swallowed 3 magnets -

The Magnetix type building toys are especially bad and there is a recall of Polly Pockets with magnets, but I read that the magnets in toys nowadays are much stronger than a typical refrigerator magnet. So, just double check the pieces to make sure they're safe to have around little ones.

Thanks for the heads-up Kym. This will be a toy dd plays with only at the table under supervision as I have a little "crumb-catcher" toddling about. We treat our magnetix the same way. They are put up and only allowed out to play with supervised at the table. And when I put them away I always check to make sure none are missing.I do this with all of her toys with small parts, magnetic or not. Can't be too safe with things like that.

Haba is a large Europena (German?) toy company and they make absolutely wonderful and beautiful toys (mostly wooden). We have their pyramid and Roman Arch blocks and several other things. I was so excited to find that some enterprising person has opened a shop here that is full of Haba toys and now I am so excited that my kids will get something decent for Christmas. The other toys here are all terrible imports that would never pass any tests in Western Europe or America. They are terribly unsafe and break immediately.
All this to say that Haba is a great name brand and it will probably be very well made and last a lifetime, though I'm not familiar with the Fantasia itself.

Thanks, Katie! I have heard good things about Haba also. I am trying hard this year for Christmas to go with quality rather than quantity, so it is reassuring to hear that the quality is excellent. The price is actually reasonable as well considering the number of pieces the potential for alot of open-ended play.
