Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

my dh and i go back and forth about working on our basement. currently, it holds our library, has a storage area and lots of room for the kids to ride their scooters on rainy days. BUT, it's not very inviting. so, we'd like to have it drywalled and fixed up. we are planning what 'zones' we'd like and i don't want to forget anything! if you have a fantastic basement, what makes it so? what would the ideal basement entail?

Lots and lots of light.

Our house now has a downstairs which is technically a basement, but only half of it is underground and it has big windows on the above ground wall so that it doesn't feel at all basement-y. And I've been in completely below ground basements that achieved almost the same thing with lots of really good overhead lighting and light colored paint and flooring.

Controlling moisture is a big thing in below ground basements, too so a good dehumidifier makes a difference because it gets rid of any icky, musty smells.

thanks sara! i have a dehumidifier already and keep it on a timer. i keep our books in the basement and don't want them to smell musty. we are thinking of a library/entertainment room on one side, an office and project rooms on the other side and an unfinished utility room in the back with the furnace, water softner, etc. i'm rather excited to have a project room - a place for my sewing machine to set out, my scrapbook materials, etc.
