Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

December 3rd we're having a Christmas party with a bunch of other Catholic families (about 10 families, 2 of which are homeschoolers) and the kids are supposed to bring gifts to exchange. The good thing is that they're limited to a maximum of $10 per gift AND they're encouraging homemade gifts if possible.

Any ideas for something my kids (ages 4-15) could make for the other kids (ages 0-15 -- mix of boys and girls)? Aisa would probably bake for the teens b/c she knows what they like but I'm more at a loss with the 4-9 year olds -- I can make stuff for them, but it would be better if the kids can make the gifts themselves!

Thanks!

stef:)

ps I've got one idea: We've got a Crayola factory and the kids love to make alligator- and train-shaped crayons, but I'm looking for more....

What about fleece scarves/pillows? The scarves can be made without sewing. You just cut a long rectangle of fleece and then fringe the ends; you can knot the fringes if you like. We did this at a kids' craft workshop last holiday season...it was the number one hit of the event.

Isabella, Sophia and I just finished off a little throw blanket for Joe Max last night.

I'll take some pics of this and post it to my blog later today so you can see - it's totally easy and not very expensive. In fact, I decided last night that this is what we'll be making my mom and Steve's parents for Christmas!

Oh wow! That is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm now afraid of suggesting to the kids that we make this for their friends -- they're going to want one FOR THEMSELVES!!!

HOW did you make it???

Nancy, that's an awesome suggestion -- and fleece is on sale too! I think we'll try some fleece crafts this year. Easy on the pocket and easy on the hands too.

Stef,

I bought the fleece pre-cut at JoAnn's for about $6.00 - both pieces came together.

You just cut a square out of each corner - usually 4X4" in size or 5X5" in size (for this I just eyeballed it). Then you cut strips and knot them together. If you want to make a pillow you could add the stuffing, too.

I really like the idea of the scarves that Nancy suggests, too.

I don't know if you got a chance to see my blogbut I posted pictures of gifts that my dd made at 12 and 11. Can your 9 yr do embroidery? If you take dd's bookmark ideas and your 9yr is just starting to sew a simple cross, that is what dd started with and it looks lovely.

I had another post about "chunky homemade crayons" and then I found these Crazy Crayons. My six year old is dutifully peeling paper off crayons and growing the pile a little each day

This year we are going to try making cinnamon ornaments. Ds loves rolling out dough and using cookie cutters, so this should be right up his alley.

Those crayons are so pretty, Gwen! Thanks for the suggestion.

How cool, Tracy! Those should smell fabulous! And we've already got everything we need (I found a recipe at McCormick

Thanks for the great ideas! If there are more, just keep them coming! I think I'll print these out and keep them in a holiday binder so whatever we don't do we can reserve for next year.

board games can be fairly easy to make if you have someone who can do the initial wood cutting.. for smaller kids a tic tac toe board is great.. olders can be checkers.. just get a piece of board big enough to make the board and a dowel to cut slices off of.. then kids can sand and paint all the pieces. And you can personalize them.. my girls would love a pink and purple checkers set for instance ;)

Erin,

I tried to leave you a comment on your blog but it said that I was Spam!

Never in my life have I been referred to as this meat!

Just wanted to let you know!

Also, those gifts your children made were so lovely - and I am so impressed with your children's generosity!

Great job!

These look like a lot of fun, and I have an expert crayon-peeler at my service.    I wonder if they would turn out well if you filled a cookie cutter sitting on waxed paper on a baking sheet? We've been saving all the "restaurant crayons" that would just have gotten thrown away for a project like this.

Maria,

Thank you for your kind words I have just been emailed by a dear friend to say the same thing. I did wonder why I had no comments, I have emailed the provider.
At first I wondered 'meat' what is Maria talking about then I realised spam is a tin product isn;t it?

Thank you again
