Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you are near Staunton Va or know someone there, would you mind emailing or PM'ing me? We are heading that way this week and need to find a Church for All Saints Day and the kids are hoping to be able to trick or treat...preferably somewhere that would appreciate their saint costumes. I have heard there is a very active homeschooling community there but have not been able to find any contacts for it. I was hoping maybe there would be an All Saints Day celebration somewhere around there. Thanks so much!

Hollee, there is a wonderful church on Augusta Street in the heart of Staunton. It's called St Francis and is one of the loveliest buildings I've ever seen. That was our parish for a while--my Jane made her First Communion there. There is indeed an active group of hs'ers there--let me give my friend a call and find out if there is anything going on for All Saints. You might also try Googling for the parish website and check the bulletin.

I'll write back if I find out anything, but if you don't hear from me (it's chaotic here at the moment) please do check w/ the church itself!

Oh Lissa,
Thank you ever so much!! That is a great help! I will google St. Francis right now! Thank you for taking the time to help out in the midst of moving in/settling in!

My dc were torn between wanting to go with Dad and missing out on trick or treating here. And to top it off, we were not able to convince our fellow parishioners here to have an All Saints Day party this year instead of the Haunted House party they have put on for the last 2 yrs! So I am hoping this could be a second chance at celebrating All Saints Day with others! Esp. homeschoolers as we miss that comraderie! Thanks again!

Hey Hollee,

Maybe you'all should move down here with us. Between our two families we should have enough for a decent All Saints party! LOL!!! We're going through the same thing.

God bless,

Oh man Kristen,
I can't BELIEVE how much resistance families put up about an All Saints Party here! About 6 weeks ago it started out as an All Saints Party followed or preceeded by a Vigil Mass and 2 days ago degenerated into some type of hybrid.... each week it seemed it changed for the worst until we ended up with 4 saint party games and a haunted house! And loads of candy. No Mass, no opening prayer...nothing. (our priest would have been willing to do it all, but he got dropped out of the planning loop at the last possible minute!) I am still pretty peeved by the whole thing. And if I even think about how empty our parish church will be on Wed I will make myself batty!

But I just looked at St. Francis' website and their calendar says they are having an All Saints Party Tuesday evening followed by Mass!! Yippee! Now to call tomorrow to see if we can attend the party! Thank you again Lissa!

Well, I'm determined to have an All Saints Party here at the house next year (barring any new babies or any other blessings that take precendence over parties) so consider yourselves invited if you don't talk your parish into having one! I do think you are right, between our 2 families (and the 3 kids here whose families also wanted an All Saints Party), we'll have enough for a decent party!
