I just got a call from my OB (actually,I didn't know it was him so I didn't answer because of school). The message said not to worry, but additional tests are needed.
I'm not worried acutally. I'm wondering could drinking a sugary drink before going in for their koolaide mixture have an effect on the results??
Once I pulled into the hospital parking lot & realized what I was drinking had sugar I joked with DH I would fail.
What do you think?

It's supposed to be a fasting test, nothing by mouth except water. I would think that a sugary drink before the test would definitely skew the results.
Good luck with the next round!

I think the 1 hour test is not fasting, but just drinking the stuff one hour before.
Then I think you'll go to a three hour fasting one.
I may be wrong. . .
Not sure about the sugar drink beforehand.

You'll have to go for a three hour test. They'll give you a special high-carb diet to follow for a couple of days, then more of that gross koolaid. They'll take your blood four times -- once when you get there, and once each hour afer that. Bring a good book and get a babysitter.

This happened in my last pregnancy. I wasn't suposed to fast. They also didn't give me a specific diet for the second test, so for the day and a half before the test I ate meat, eggs, and fruits/veggies and avoided the carbs (and drank rediculous amounts of water). I passed the second time. Those tests can be skewed...if you just eat something wrong then you get pegged as "high-risk" and all sorts of interventions follow. I don't trust everything they tell me... When it comes to having babies through ob's and hospitals (which I have to, because after a c/s with my first and a VBAC with my second, I'll always be a "high-risk" VBAC), I'm such a rebel...lol.

Four times!?! Ugh!
Thank you all for the input. My dr still hasn't called me back, but I'm guessing he will tell me to come in for the 3 hour test.
I've never been told to fast before the 1 hour test, but after their koolaide drink I can only have water for that hour until blood is drawn. No problems before, but we're crossing new territory now.
Aslo, thanks for the reminder about bringing a book & I'll probably have DH watch our three. They barely made it for the one hour.....trying to keep them still in the waiting room for three hours isn't something I want to do.

Michaela,
My last time around, I failed the one hour test, but passed the three hour test. I also did not follow their dietary plans - they wanted me to eat not only high carb, but high sugar i.e. a Snickers each day! I did the same thing Andrea did - lots of protein and healthy veggies and water. I also increased my B-Complex. I really felt it was silly to set myself up for failure with a really poor diet for a couple days beforehand. I just took it to be a real wake up call to cut out some of the poorer food choices I had made. I would never do anything to harm the baby, but like Andrea I wasn't ready to be put on their high risk list! I guess I'm a rebel too!
God bless,
Angela

Michaela,
Just remember that you are in control. If you don't want to do the 3 hour test refuse and tell them you'll repeat the previous one and then don't drink something sugary beforehand this time. At least I would try that first.
God bless,

Strange....
The nurse called back this morning & told me that I don't need to come in for more bloodwork. My numbers were in the normal range. (I had 139 & normal is up to 190. I had to listen to the message again to see if I'm nuts. The dr did say I needed to come in for additional bloodwork. Oh well, I was going to go with Michele's suggestion to repeat the 1 hr....now I don't have to see a needle for a little while.

Gotta love it. Just got another call telling me that my numbers are high for pregnancy. Fast 12 hours & come enjoy the morning in the lab.

Michaela,
I'd swear you were working with my Ob's office with all this mixed reports. I have had similar experiences...it's quite maddening.
Praying for your blood draw.
