OK, I admit defeat! I have purchased every cheap timer that exists in local chain stores and office supplies. Does anyone know of a timer that will last for, how about a year? Can handle an occasional fall on a tile floor? And the occasional drool of a teether? What about one that is big enough to not get lost in a paper shuffle...hmmm it should be any color other than white! It needs to have seconds, not just minutes/hours. Well, since I'm dreaming big...can it have a face that is readable from across a room and doesn't have to have the perfect angle of light shining on it? How about a sturdy base to stay put? Or an anchor to keep it at a particular spot? At this point, I'm willing to sell the farm for a decent timer!
Phew...my little morning rant...I feel better . Thank you .
Love,

My favorite timer is from Walmart. It is a Westbend with hours, minutes, seconds and an ability to time two different things. It's white. But it has held up for a couple years. I like it so much I've gone back and bought more so that we can have one in the kitchen, one in the classroom, and one in the bedroom to time exercise, etc. They are relatively inexpensive.
But, if I was willing to sell the farm, I'd look at Williams Sonoma or Crate and Barrell

Thank you for feeling my pain, Victoria! How are you, friend? Were your ears burning this past Saturday when Ann C. and I were talking about you?....All good of course. I digress!
I searched C&B, no good fit. The search engine at WS is down. Now, I have my eye on this timer.
I'm feeling optimistic .
Love,

Okay Angie,
My curiosity is piqued. Do you use the timer in your homeschooling and if so, how?

I love my Pyrex Professional timer--mostly for cooking It has been dropped quite a few times--I often take it into the yard when dinner is in the oven and it has fallen from the fort on our swingset-a few times-and it still "ticks."
It can be attached to a temp probe you can stick in meat and have it buzz when it hits your set temp---bummer, but then you can't take it in the yard with you
cord is not long enough--my only negative comment.
I remember it being a little pricey for me, but I used one of those Bed, Bath and Beyond 20% off coupons I get every other day(as opposed to the credit card applications that come 3/day ) and it was more reasonable.
Sorry I don't know how to set up a nice, colored link but amazon has it listed as: Pyrex Digital Probe Oven Thermometer/ Timer.

How about this, Angie?
The ff. are pricier:
blue one from KitchenAid
red one from CDN
We use ours for math drills or for cleaning the house (we set the timer for 15 minutes and everyone helps out cleaning one room) or for computer time (they're only allowed 15 minutes a day after schoolwork and chores).
Oh, and I either have the kids use my cell phone's stopwatch for their math drills, or the microwave or the stove's timer. That's why I can't recommend it to Angie, 'cause my stove's white
