Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I can't seem to find a crockpot larger than 6.5qts. This is fine for one meal for our family, but I am trying to double up and cook and freeze meals for the later stage of pregnancy.

Have any of you used an electric roaster? I've seen some in which you could cook a 22lb. turkey. I'm thinking this might be the answer for us. Do you have a favorite brand?

Thanks so much!

I had gotten - a few years ago - the 6 qt. Nesco Roaster.

It never worked as well as I would have liked, though I do know people who swear by them. I could never get mine to work well as a slow cooker, though. BUT to steam tamales it works great .

I've used our Rival 18 Qt. Roaster to roast an extra turkey, when we had another in our range oven. It was moister than the one baked in the regular oven and perfectly done. I've also stacked two 9 x 13 casserole dishes inside (on top of a grate that came with it), cooked the meals at the usual temp. (I think we rotated the bottom and top casseroles halfway through the cooktime). We then transported the roaster, with casseroles still inside, to homes an hour away. I've done this for baked macaroni and cheese, and meatballs, so far. Each time the food was still nice and warm. We simply plugged the roaster back in to keep everything warm until serving. It actually works like an insulated travel container in this instance. I've been very pleased with our roaster and actually look forward to occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas now that we have it! Doubling meals is definitely easier with one. I agree that slow cookers and crockpots are not as versatile when cooking in larger quantities.

Oh yes, I make bean soup in my roaster.. it's not quite like a crockpot.. but it loses moisture less than cooking on the stovetop.

I have the Nesco (did NOT want the non-stick coating so the cheaper ones wouldn't work) 18 qt.

I've roasted a turkey, cooked roasts (and can fit in all the veggies even), made granola, cooked soups (mainly bean), cooked enchiladas... forget about figuring out where to store it.. figure out where to put it so you can use it often because it's nice.

Also, I'm much more comfortable leaving it on and leaving the house than say the oven or stovetop.
