Hi, ladies. I'm hoping you will all give me your quick feedback about an opportunity to go to the Barnum Circus this weekend. Just wondering if you think that it is a good activity for a three-year-old and 20-month-old? It has been so long since I've been to one that I don't really know.
Thanks!
Kristin

We've been and we've enjoyed it.
Often, they allow you time with the animals and clowns pre-performance.
Have fun if you decide to go!

Kristin,
I took my then 2-year old almost 2 years ago and he had a great time. The older ones of course got more out of, but he enjoyed it too.
30 minutes before the stated performance time they let you go down to the floor and watch the acts warm up -- this was the best part for us!
Go and enjoy!

My only caution would be noise - my littler ones were rather startled sometimes at how loud everything was. Just make sure they are well rested and enjoy!

Ok, I'll be the dissenting voice I think the circus is great, and I have enjoyed it in the past. But, the last time I went, I was in college, and I thought I would get whiplash from trying to watch all 3 rings at the same time. It's a very stimulating experience, and it has made me wary of bringing my own kids to a big circus (3 ring like Ringling Bros). The smaller, one ring circuses I think would be fine.
Just my 2 cents

I haven't been to the circus in a long time, but my first thought is the same as Noreen's. 3 rings was too busy for me when I was 12 or so!
Also, the venues are usually large -- the action is far away! (Maybe a good thing?)
I wouldn't pay for such little ones to go (isn't it pricey?) but I might try it out if it was near by and free

We went to a Shriner's circus and I was a bit shocked at the costumes. My kids also picked up some inappropriate behavior from the clowns.
However they did have fun riding an elephant. We probably won't go again unless we go early, ride the elephant, and then leave. We had a lot more fun at the zoo.

One other warning, watch out for all the animal rights activsts that swarm the sidewalks outside the show. They were trying to thrust pamphlets (awful pictures) into our hands and they were saying horrible things. Hopefully your area won't have that, I was totally unprepared for their looney-tunes tactics.

I have wonderful memories of my parents bringing me to the circus each year in New York when I was growing up.
We have brought our own children too - and they have a great time. Our son used to be bothered by how loud it was, and would cover his ears (still does. but he also does when you run a vacuum or run the water in the sink hard, so....) The noise level has never bothered our girls...
