Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone own a laminator? If so, what brand do you own? Is it a worthwhile investment?

I would really like to read the answers to this also. Would it be feasible to share with a couple of nearby families?

Okay, I took the plunge even though I'm only starting out on this journey, and I am TOTALLY in love with my new laminator.

I got the Xyron 900. It is a cold laminator and is so easy to use. The other thing I like about it is that it has different cartridges that pop in and out to change what you can do. In addition to laminating, I can make respositionable stickers, permanent stickers, and laminated magnets! I purchased mine from Stickermaker.com and spent $139.00. I got free shipping with code (free6) and it came really quickly. This was the best deal I found on the Internet. At first I went to Michael's, and purchased the basic unit, which includes a permanent adhesive cartridge, and the magnet cartridge. Those 2 things alone cost me over $160!

I have already used this a bunch of times. We are doing BFIAR, and I made magnets of Jesse Bear and all of the items in the story to do a "magnet" board in lieu of the felt board. I've also laminated a number of things. I'm really happy with this purchase.

I went to Staples to get something small laminated and I was so impressed by how THICK the plastic layer was. You could hardly bend the 81/2 x 11 sheet of laminated plastic! I have used those huge hot roll laminators for years, and they are good for laminating really large items, but that wasn't ever close to this thickness.   Now I'm seriously considering the purchase of a laminator since my Staples experience. If I could find a laminator that will make things THAT sturdy, then I want it at my house!!
I, too, have been poking around for info about laminators with very little success. The people at Staples told me that they use a high-end GBC HeatSeal, which is a hot pouch laminator. They sell the "lower" end ones there for anywhere from $70 to over $200 (Canadian)dollars. It depends on what size and thickness you will want to laminate. The only caution that I have received is to check the number of rollers that a unit has. If you are looking to buy a hot pouch laminator, the more rollers (4 or more is ideal), the less air pockets...

I'd love to hear more from others, though,

Mary

FWIW, after starting the "Can we talk about laminators?" thread, I went ahead and purchased the xyron 900 - waiting for it to come in the mail.

100 for the machine, the roll of sticker stuff that comes with it and a roll of laminator stuff (to use the technical words ).
