Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is there a quality stock pot out there that's larger than 8 quart? I feel sort of like a even asking this. But it seems every time I cook noodles (which is often in this Italian/American household), they bubble over. Also, anything larger than a 3 quart saucepan would be helpful.

here's a 10-qt from Tramontina and here's a 12-qt from anolon

haven't ordered from the first shop, the other one i ordered from a couple of years ago or so...

if you need something bigger (or even if you didn't) restaurant supply stores are wonderful for large-sized cooking pots. cheaper too. especially pasta pots, where you don't really need the heavy expensive stuff. they have things like these

Stef:

I heard that aluminum pots aren't good for a person because it enters your food and thus your bloodstream. Before I knew this, I bought a couple of large aluminum saucepans from Sam's ~ don't throw tomatoes please, this was before we knew about Walmart selling the day after pill ~ and I used one once to cook noodles. The pot was all splotchy and I couldn't wash it off. We returned them immediately. I'm looking for hard-anodized or stainless steel. I see that the first pot you recommend is stainless steel, but we haven't had good luck with that company. Any other recommendations?

Hi, Tina, I didn't know if price was a consideration or not. Nope, I don't use aluminum either. There are several options at both cooking.com and chefscatalog.com, including pasta inserts, and Williams-Sonoma has a 10-quart with a lock-in-strainer. Another favorite vendor of mine is A Cook's Wares - cookswares.com -- although some of their stuff is pricey -- I usually wait for their web specials if I need something. Other options: Bed Bath and Beyond (same stuff as cooking.com and chefscatalog.com) but if you get coupons in the mail that will bring the price down a little. If you don't mind shopping eBay I've gotten great deals on cookware that way too, including a Wusthof knife set and a Le Creuset pot.

Do you have a Tuesday Morning nearby? I found a 12oz stainless steel pot with an insert steamer for under $50. Tuesday Morning has a really nice kitchen selection IMO.

This is considered a myth by the guy who discovered that aluminum might be a component in Alzheimer's. He was surprised to find that, after he published, that aluminum pans were discounted at his local housewares store, and even more surprised that it was his research that was the impetus.

FWIW, though...I prefer stainless steel.

I have a really nice 16 qt. "soup pot" from Revere - we use it a lot in the fall and winter.

I've been very happy with this Circulon 12 quart pot

It's no longer available from Amazon, but something like it must be available from Circulon (I'll check when I get a couple of minutes)

I just had a friend mention that Bed Bath and Beyond carries a 12 qt stainless steel pot with the encapsulated aluminum in the base (means things don't burn easily) and it has the inserts for cooking pasta and steaming things.. pretty reasonable price for what it was.. I think it was around $50. You can find it at the website.

I was going to buy the Calphalon pot with a pasta insert but instead got this   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000 5CET4/104-7307550-5631 112?ie=UTF8 since so many reviewers said they use it not only for stock and so on, but also for boiling pasta. Plus, I'm not sure why but it was on sale for $19.99 and I got free shiping with it.

Calphalon is expensive but I don't have one of their items I dislike, and I use them more than my other pots I have.

Also, this is THE pot I use for gumbo, the wide base apparently makes a lot of difference for rouxs and gravies and it is excellent for stock.

I have a very large stainless steel pot for boiling sea food and corn but when I try to boil pastas or root vegetables in it they always stick. Nothing sticks to the Calphalon.

........I'm not a sales rep, I am just very impressed by their products.

I just re-read and realized you are looking for something larger that 8 quart, sorry! Mine is 8 but they also have 12 quart pots in that same pro line.

Hhhhmmm....I think they are called 365+. They come in a few different sizes, and I like that they have the pasta insert and steamer insert.

I know IKEA has a few different kinds out now, though. We do like to shop there, as so much of their stuff overall is space-saving or multi-purpose -- and with an 1000 sf. house, we need that I just saw the other day that they had a new line of pots and pans out, and I think it looks neat, ( it looks cooler in person...silly, I know )

HTH,
