Gosh, I had so much fun with my kids and my cousin's kids in Boston last week. The kids loved it too. I felt right at home, even though I visited some places I have not seen in 30 years. I know my dh has no interest in living in MA (his family and business are here in NY), but I feel so home sick after my visit. 
Is anyone else out there raising kids away from "home?" Am I just being sentimental?

I'm with you, MacBeth. My dh has no interest in leaving the prairies of Saskatchewan. I'm from "supernatural" British Columbia and grew up in the mountains with lots of lakes close by (and milder summers!). I MISS the water, southern Saskatchewan is so dry.
I do have hope though. We will probably be relocating next year and, while we'll probably still be in Saskatchewan, we may be moving to his family's farm which is further north and close to lakes! Pray for me, that would be so awesome!
You're not alone with feeling homesick while at home!

For many years we were away from "home". Home for me is Texas while home for dh is Massachusetts. By the way, I love Boston. I went to college there (that's how I met dh). We visit as often as we can. These past two years we've only been once. Dh's great uncle is a retired Jesuit priest who performed our wedding ceremony and baptized all our children. I need to have more so we have an excuse to keep going back even if it's getting so expensive now with more kids.
Back to topic, it was very hard for us because we always wanted to get back here, but the Army always had other plans. Now we're here and don't want to leave. Luckily, dh loves Texas (he hates the cold weather). Now, if only we can get the Army to agree to keep us here until he retires from the Army.

Gosh... I do live "away from home" ... It would actually take me 28 hours on a plane to return home. 18 hours if we lived along the coast. I feel incredibly homesick when I'm home. Not only do I have family, but the whole culture is completely different. I have a better understanding of the social graces, the slang..... and oh do I miss big lush raintrees in the middle of the highway and the food.... oh glorious food! When I iChat with my siblings, my husband always laughs at how my speech slowly become more and more locale. After 15 minutes of conversation, he can't understand me even though it's all in English (sort of).

YES! I'm from Northern Virginia and my dh is from Ohio and for now we are in Washington. We've been trying to get back to the East coast (anywhere) for 9years but, as stated by KC, the Air Force has always had other plans for us.
I miss home and family soooo much sometimes I just can't stand it! We should be moving next summer and are continuing to pray to get somewhere East.

Macbeth,
I wish I could say that we still have immediate family in the Boston area. I would live there in a heartbeat. For now we live in (beautiful) New Hampshire, but the citygirl in me just misses Boston like crazy. From age 2 - 7, I lived in a nearby suburb and it has never left me. I ended up going back to Boston in college, yet since our families are here, we chose to raise our children near them. Besides, my husband loathes traffic, making the idea of living anywhere south of Concord, NH completely abhorrent to him.
Every few months I find an excuse to make a trip to Boston (>2hrs), but with the cost of gasoline hovering near $3/gal., I think it has been since there was snow on the ground! Our homeschool group is planning our annual trip to the Museum of Science, so our family will take advantage and make a day of exploring Boston.
There is so much that I miss about Boston.. the food, fun places to shop, the ridiculous intersections (I admit to not being the best driver, but I am a great driver in Boston! DH says I fit right in .) I don't even mind riding the T .
The accents and "wicked" dialects of the local Bostonians is a comfort to me, too. Oh, just answering this post has given me such an itch to head southbound.
