Help! Bob Evans I'm not, we're done with cold cereals, pancakes and bacon cannot be served daily... so what's on your breakfast menu?
Seriously, I'm looking for suggestions. What are your old stand-by's for breakfast? I would so appreciate a glimpse into your morning kitchens.

Ever since my major detoxification of heavy metals from my body I have had to change from a breakfast that use to be fruit only, to a protein breakfast, which for us is a homemade mince with veges mixed through(with homemade stocks) and usually I have to add extra butter.
The butter stimulates the bile to let go heavy metals from the liver that has dealt with toxins from cells overnight the heavy metals bind with the protein and then leaves the body via the digestive tract. So what an enormous change was that! (I used to be vegan years ago....) I like to add freshly chopped comfrey and herb robert or dried stinging nettle to my bowl of mince.
So thats my breakfast and the reason why.

We need you to translate: what is mince?

Mince is a bit like a casserole but with the use of meat that has been put through a mincer (the same meat you would use to make a meat spagetti bolognese) you fry the mince and onion, mix in the stock and add a tin of crushed tomatoes and mix through the veges you like and cook, - mix fresh herbs in right at the end - very nice! (you can serve on toast or on a bed of rice, but I keep mine as free of carbs as possible.)
I am sure you must just have another name for it and I am curious to know what it may be!

Ahhhh, breakfast. The meal my kids don't usually eat. But, our choices are, cereal and milk, OJ or fruit juice(if we have it), eggs, toast, yogurt and granola or cereal mixed in, toast-with butter, jelly, or cheese melted on top, oatmeal(with bananas or raisins), sometimes I make fruit smoothies, occasionally I will make muffins, PBJ, mac and cheese, slices of cheese and sometimes waffles.
I think that is it. Most of the time it is easy, but sometimes I cook
Now,I need to ask the same ? about lunch.

i offer these choices:
french toast
scrambled eggs and toast
oatmeal
pancakes
waffles
muffins
yogurt, granola and fruit
cereal (i try to avoid this one if i can because a box only goes so far and it really doesn't have staying power.)
anne, i'd love to see the lunch thread. i need some new ideas for the new school year - now i even bore myself.

I offer these too but I just seem to be in a rut. Cream of Wheat is a favorite here, especially with a touch of maple syrup or applesauce.
Yes! Lunch ideas would also be appreciated, and keep the breakfast ones coming too!

Our menu choices are (pick one from column A and one from column B):
A
Banana
Cantaloupe
Berries
Apple
B
Cereal/Oatmeal
Toast with PB
Cinammon Toast
Yogurt and granola
Eggs with or without toast
Plus milk to drink.
I don't do "fancy" unless it's a weekend and I've had my sleep. Coffee or no coffee, I'd burn the kitchen down if I tried to do anything complicated on a weekday morning.
(Hi, by the way. I guess now that I've posted, I've got to go introduce myself in the other thread.)
ETA Lunch stuff:
Tuna sandwich
PB and J
Grilled Cheese or Quesadilla
Canned Trader Joes turkey chili
Black bean burritos with guacamole
Cottage cheese and fruit with crackers or toast

Breakfast is usually cereal on warm days. I just cannot bear to heat up the kitchen in the summer. In winter, however, baking is good!
Other offerings:
Oatmeal with plenty of fixings
Bagel and cream cheese with prosciutto
fruit salad with yogurt and granola sprinkles
Toast with cinnamon/brown sugar and cottage cheese
waffles with peanut butter
scrambled eggs (are easy in the microwave)with cheese

I love Philothea's list! Our menu choices are similar. For the 5 weekdays, we do:
Mon: Oatmeat, Aidells chicken sausage
Tues: Eggs, scrambled with leftover sausage, or on the side
Wed: Alavarado Street sprouted wheat bagels w/ lox, avo & tomatoes, OR hardboiled eggs
Thurs: Rice Cereal cooked with maple syrup and vanilla
Fri: Alvarado Street Bagels and yogurt
Saturday: Daddy's Saturday Breakfast Extraveganza, or cold cereal.
Sunday: Cold Cereal as we rush for church

If my tenuous grasp on American English is correct, I think they call mince either "ground beef" or "hamburger"

Hi Maddie,
I cook most mornings unless I've made a BIG batch of granola (which is what we use for "cereal"; I can't afford box cereal normally). I do like to cook but it is daunting first thing in the morning. I find if I don't cook my kids are hungry by 9am and I don't have time for that! I really lack in the "snack" department.
We have oatmeal (for those who will eat it); eggs and toast; scones and yogurt (plain whole milk yogrut flavored with honey); waffles; pancakes; biscuts, eggs, sasauge, and gravy for Sunday brunch....
The best thing I have done has been to try the breakfast recipies at Large Family Logistics Blog
http://largefamilylogistics.lifewithchrist.org Just scroll down and look on the left for both the breakfast and lunch recepies
My crew have LOVED all of them Today I made baked oatmeal- even my oatmeal hater loved it We also make the baked french toast, we need to try the dutch puff next.
God Bless,
Alison

During corn season we are eating corn fritters.
The first recipe I used called for 1 cup of flour. I misread the recipe and used 1 Tablespoon, added a bit more to hold it together and it is great with some syrup.
My loose recipe is
Last night's leftover corn, taken off the cob.
some melted butter, flour, salt, baking powder and milk.
Look at your favorite pancake recipe to get proportions. We like barely enough flour to hold it together.
Cook like a pancake in a skillet.
Today's were served with sliced tomatoes.
In the winter you can used leftover frozen corn.
I also like potato cakes (again last nights leftovers) made with egg.
Waffles, cold cereal, pancakes, biscuits and omlets are regulars and I love hot cereal. Now that the girls have larger appetites we no longer have leftover pizza for breakfast since there is never any leftover. I know, not very healthy but also a fairly rare occurence.
Personally, I have been trying to add protein so cottage cheese with a bit of fruit is my favorite, everyone else likes yogurt.
How about frittatas served cold? Make it when you amke dinner the night before so it is ready when you are.
This winter I am determined to make a high protein, high fiber bread.
Of course no one here wil need to know what I throw into the dough to get it more nutrition rich.

What brand or type of yogurt do you buy? There are so many kinds at the store.

At mainstream grocery stores, I buy Stonyfield Organic plain yogurt. At Trader Joes, I buy their house organic yogurt, also plain. That way I can add whatever I want to make it taste like whatever I want (blueberries, vanilla, strawberries, etc.) and it's much healthier than the sugar- or corn syrup-added variety. I can also use it in cooking.

I should have known this was discussed already!! Thanks for pointing that out, Erin.
So many great ideas here too, thanks. Today I am making a niner (how do you say nine batches?) of bananna / oatmeal muffins to freeze for the next week or so. I love when I can bake all day and set aside some good meals for those busy days.
