Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies,

Which pregnancy book would you recommend to a new mother who is not entirely pro-life, but is very excited about being pg? The standard old "What to Expect When your Expecting" makes me gag when they discuss aborting a baby with birth defects. There must be other great books out there! What answers your questions during pregnancy with a healthy respect for life?

Thanks!

I like the Sears' line of books. The Pregnancy Book is the one they'll need for now. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they talk about abortion in there.

A really funny one is the "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy".

Probably not as serious as what you are looking for, but it's a good lighthearted look at pregnancy (especially the first).

I like The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears, too. It has a nice section on "How Your Baby is Growing" for each month of pregnancy which details the development of the baby. The first two chapters (which cover the 1st and 2nd months of pregnancy) have lots of drawings which show the development of the baby over the course of the first 8 weeks.

I don't remember seeing anything about "selective reduction" or "termination" in The Pregnancy Book.

I also like A Child is Born by Lennart Nilsson, BUT there are references to abortion and contraception in that book. The full-color photographs are great...just ignore some of the text!
