Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I survived! I focused on caring for the people that were coming and not worrying about my "lived in" home. I explained to my husband about the "secular entertaining" and the Christian hospitality that we dicussed a few weeks back. We talked about what would make a special and warm visit for them.

It was his (adult) nephew, wife and 2 year old twins. They are from NYC so we realized playing in our huge backyard etc. is what those girls needed! We focused on mowing the lawn really nicely, cleaning up the little girl playhouse, putting out play food, some little trike-bikes and all that fun stuff!

When they arrived, the girls ran out to the backyard and no one discussed my house or asked for a tour (the bedrooms were kinda messy so I was relieved!). Everyone just enjoyed the girls playing outside. They have never played on grass before-they go to the city playgrounds which are cement. At first, they were actually scared to walk on the grass. They loved the birdfeeders! They helped me fill it up.

We ate out there, went in the pool and just enjoyed being outide-which is a huge treat for them!

I'm glad I refocused myself from worrying about all my undone cleaning and projects to ministering to their souls.

Thanks for the good thread and discussion!

That is great! How wonderful to be able to really consider the needs of your guests and make them feel welcome.

Oh, Alice, your post brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful for those little girls! I imagine they'll remember the feeling of being welcomed and the joy they had in your backyard.

Peace,
