Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We live in a small neighborhood and one of the houses just sold a month or so ago. We recently saw a moving van in the driveway and assumed the new family moved in. We usually take a tray of goodies and a card to new families. Well, yesterday we found out that the Mom passed away right after closing from an aneurysm. She leaves behind a 3.5 dd and husband. We have not met them but want to do something for them. Do you have any suggestions? Either for just our family or for us to organize the neighborhood to do? Taking cupcakes just does not seem to be enough...

I am praying for this family in their grief and for the blessed repose of the woman's soul.

Do you have a grocery store that does deliveries? Maybe you could take a little collection from the neighborhood for the Dad to have some groceries delivered, or a meal rotation for a short while for Dad and daughter. Maybe some of the men can offer to help the Dad settle in the house (i.e., getting window treatment hardware and curtains up, furniture moved, mow the lawn).

Also, Dad might be in need of someone to watch his daughter while he tends to household matters and, unfortunately now, legal/logistical matters as relates to his wife's passing. Why not stop by and see in what ways he needs help, or at least get the bug in his ear that you're there and willing to help if he doesn't have a list of things that come to him immediately.

You're so good to be thinking of doing this. May God bless you in your efforts to reach out and welcome this grieving family.

Although this seems such a little thing I am sure it will be very appreciated. I think just by acknowledging what he is going through and being will to talk about it with him is the best thing you can do.
Then you can talk to him about some of Kellys' great suggestions and go from there.

Thank you Kelly and Mary Chris-We are headed out shortly to take those cupcakes! Great ideas Kelly. I know there will be several dads in the neighborhood who will be happy to help with those things. Dh is going to start emailing and calling the neighbors we know! If anyone else has any ideas, I'm still open!!
