Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Nick (8 yo) was stung by something on our way home from the beach on Friday. He didn't say anything at the time. Later he said it felt like a needle jabbed him when he first sat down in the van, but then he didn't think about it much. Later that night it was red and swollen and hot and about the size of a sand dollar. It hasn't gone down at all.

I have been trying everything I know: vinegar, hydrocortisone, benzicaine, ice. I don't know what else to try, especially since I don't know what caused it. What else should I be trying?

hi michelle, we're praying for Nick. i'm not an expert so don't want to give advice, except if he has a fever or he has other symptoms (difficulty breathing, etc.) i'd take him to the doctor right away.

How's he doing Michelle? I'd like to hear answers to this also. I have a 10 yr. old who was chewed up by mosquitos with swollen areas up to 2in. that really hurt. We're using the Benedryl gel, which is giving a little relief and I believe may be keeping the swelling down a bit. I'd love to know of an herbal pack I could make. Tea bags and aspirin were among the remedies in the wasp sting thread.
Come to think of it, honey is a great anti-inflammatory that most people have on the shelf.

I'd check with the doctor. Trip sometimes reacts to things and stings, and he is allergic to the "cure" (Benadryl) so he only looks worse if we try to treat him ourselves.

Oh, and Michelle...I think there is enough life in and near the water near you to warrant a check with the doctor. One never knows what odd, exotic thing that might wash up or fly in .
