Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone live anywhere near this? Dh has a potential job offer. I have no idea what it would be like to live/work/homeschool there. I have googled a lot but to hear it from a someone who actually lives there is so much better. What is homeschooling like in New York? Here in AZ, we have to file an affidavit one time when we start to homeschool with the county....and that's it. No record keeping, no testing, etc. What is it like in NY?

Thanks in advance,

I used to live in Saratoga Springs! dh and moved there right after we married in 1990 and stayed 3 yrs (he was in the Navy and was assigned there)
It's a *wonderful* place to live - beautiful scenery and a very nice small town atmosphere. We lived the 1st yr in SS, then moved to Ballston Lake, a very tiny hamlet a few miles away. Ballston Spa and Burnt Hills are also two nice areas around SS.
Our oldest was born in 93, the year we moved to Va, so I can't speak to the homeschooling aspect. We had tenants renting our house for several yrs after we left and they hs'd. I believe NY requires annual testing, but am not sure what else, and that even may have changed. the hslda website usually has links to each state I think.

Hi Laura,
I am brand new here, just posted my intro, but had to respond, since I live in the adirondacks of NY (near Lake Placid), so travel down towards Saratoga Springs fairly frequently.

Saratoga itself is getting pretty built up right now, but there are still some nice small outlying areas to live in (as Karen said, Ballston Spa is one of them). In spite of the traffic, etc...Saratoga is still a beautiful place, and I love it there!!

As for homeschooling in NY...I haven't begun doing it yet, but there are LOTS of homeschoolers, at least up in my area, and I think the "rules" are not too difficult to deal with here (or so I've heard.)

Good luck!

Kerry
