Can anyone recommend a forum/board/site for homeschooling an older (middle school) only child?
Something along the lines of The More, The Merrier, but The One, The Onlier???

I was on a yahoo list that had an announcement for a new group on homeschooling with an only child. Alas, I deleted the message and can't remember which list it was!
I'm interested in this, too, as it looking so far that my son will be an only child.

I haven't found such a group, but I would be interested too, although my family is slightly larger, with two children. My family is such that I feel sometimes that I have two first-born children.

We could probably form one :) . There may be more smaller families around here. I have one dd, nearly 7 yrs. old. Sometimes questions come up about homeschooling one child.

Questions do come up, don't they?
I was not an only child, (nor my husband) and raising/homeschooling one girl seems so much harder than many sometimes. It feels so intense at times as I am her main playmate/social interaction opportunity. Add in the small confines of the boat and a rainy day and little girl who is now taller than I am (definitely going shoe shopping soon - I see no problem with 4" heels on a boat  ) and those questions don't just come up, they rocket up!

I, too, am homeschooling one child. 10 yr. old ds.
There is a discussion board at www.donnac.com and I have lurked there sometimes.
I sometimes have many question about motivating an only child. I find it very hard to keep him motivated through out the day. Sometimes I think it would make it easier if we adopt!!!

Jenn, thank you so much for the links, cannot wait to check them out.
Marcie, you hit the nail on the head, do I really have to do all the schoolwork right beside her just to motivate her???
I'll have fun exploring the next few days, which are supposed to be rainy as a Tropical Wave comes through, perfect for planning and online exploring!

Motivation...I'm finding that it is so helpful to have other children around to pique the interest and keep them motivated. I'm not officially homeschooling, but I've been borrowing my nieces and nephews for projects and also tagging along with theirs. I did spore prints with the girls and went over to my sisters with three boys see the ladybugs coming out of their pupa stage this morning. To see their peers interested helps so much!

I feel very guilty if I give him something to do and then I go and do something else. Besides the fact, that he WANTS me by his side the whole time!!
I also find myself getting excited about certain things I want us to do and when I tell him about it he says "oh, that sounds cool!" and moves on........... 
He enjoys homeschooling, I know that. But, having to keep him interested is tough. We are going to try to set up a couple of co-ops this year, so I am hoping that will help.
