Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I need help.

I do a weekly newsletter for our homeschool group. I would like to include a small blurb at the end with links to websites for the moms ( or dads ) in our group who have home based businesses. But so many people work from home, and that is not what I am looking for.

For example, I make rosaries, and I also make custom hair-bows. I know of another mom who sells quality coloring books. I know there are a few Usborne moms out there -- stuff like that. All these are done as supplements to the main income as a way to help support this homeschooling endeavor. But HOW do I say it right? Without offending someone, becasue that sure isn't what I want to do! But how do I say, "small, extra money type business"?

I'm so glad you asked.

Ok, enough silliness...I just have great difficulty passing up those opportunities...

What about:

Supplemental-income opportunities???

What about creating a special section to include those who want to be included? That way it is up to those who want to be included to come to you rather than you being resposible to get everyone??? Is that what you're doing or is it a list?

That may work....

It is a weekly e-mail newsletter - it basically announces any upcoming group events, has announcements collected from the group email list and ones that people send me personally to have included, prayer requests, upcoming birthdays, things like that.

What got me thinking was that I knew mom in our group sold Usborne, but I couldn't remember who. Then that led to the thought that there were probably lots of moms who have tiny little internet or custom businesses that they use to help supplement the income. And it would be nice to maybe make a list of them so when someone in the group was looking for something like that, they could help support others in the group.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for your help!!!

Laura, I don't know if this will help you at all, but in my support group's newsletter (I don't write it but I do the printing and mailing) we have a page called "Our Group Name" Businesses and underneath is listed anyone's blurb about what they do (other than homeschooling!) ~ there's a soapmaker, a cake baker/decorator, a clock restorer, estate planner, organizer to name a few. I think everyone is invited to write up their own blurb and submit it to the editor, who pastes it in the way she receives it.

I am not great with words, but what about something like, "Many of us have small, home-based businesses that help supplement our incomes, and I love to buy the products I need from other homeschoolers whenever possible. Do you have a side business that you'd like us to know about? Send me a link to your site and I'll include it in the next newsletter."
