Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

At her blog, Theresa and family have sighted the most wondrous fairies all around their garden!!

Now we all know fairies are real of course, but I want to know some specifics. And I didn't want to ask at your blog, Theresa, in case little ones were reading over your shoulder, but how on earth did you make such beautiful fairies?! They are the most breathtaking creations ~ I'd love to know how you made them. They look a bit like some I saw once at a Waldorf school faire, but far, far lovelier ...

Your kids must be having soooo much fun!!

I saw those! Patrick and Mary Beth have been making fairies in secret to surprise the little ones. We're using the Klutz fairy book. I'd love to know Theresa's fairy-making tips.

In addition to the Klutz kit Elizabeth mentioned, there is a great craft section in the April 2003 issue of Family Fun magazine which includes directions for making this type of flower fairy from wooden balls with holes, silk flowers, and florist wire. Also a picture of a cute fairy house. Last time I had looked they didn't have it uploaded to their site, but it looks like they do now.
Family Fun

These that Theresa made look like she utilizes a doll clothes pin as the base, with silk and real flower petal skirts pulled over. When we made our flower fairies we just bought a bunch of clearance silk flowers and pulled the stems from the petals. It leaves a hole like a skirt so is easy to pull up over a clothes pin or in our case the florist wire frame. This is a very fun craft.

Sharon Duvall (HG TV) show has a segment on making flower fairies

Thanks! We are having SO much fun!
You got it, Mary. We use doll clothes pins and silk flowers, hot glue gun, wings and ribbon, etc. The Poppy one, however was the simplest one of all. We just found a real Poppy, turned it inside out and drew on a face! Then ds decided to add butterfly wings.
My daughter(16) has used the Klutz kit before, but ds wanted to try something different.
The next few we will be making, the Woodland Fairies, will utilize real dried leaves, etc.
The last project is to decorate some unfinished birdhouses to make fairy houses. That will be next week, so check back in!
