So, we are headed for church this morning, and , as usual, ds is grumbling about something. To head him off, I said, "Let's ask Our Lady of Surprises to send you a surprise today." That made him curious, but he was very skeptical. Still we said a prayer, went to mass, and then came home.
Now, ds has been wanting a new football for weeks. He has a nerf one, but he has Super Bowl fever, and he wants a "real" one. OK. So, we are rock hunting today for science, and we are down at the creek, scrambling up and down banks, and I am becoming less enthusiastic about rocks by the minute. The banks are steep, we are walking through brambles with big thorns, etc.
All of a sudden dd points to a steep bank with a tangle of tree roots hanging over it. She points and says, "Hey- looks like there is a football over there."
Ds splashes through the creek over to the bank, and, sure enough, there is football in near mint condition caught up in the tree roots. It is red and blue, and on one side there is a big, blue M. 
Guess who?

You know...some priest, somewhere, would love to have this story in his hip pocket...
Our Lady of Surprises seems to be our family's patron saint. For example, my husband began his travels today in London, flying to Omaha, Nebraska, via O'Hare.
I got a text saying he was flying through Newark instead. Weather, I suppose.
The next text said he was not going to Omaha, but was coming home via Amtrak.
His train was late...but we are so glad he is at home with us!
Thank you, Our Lady of Surprises, for the best possible surprise! (Trust me...a huge surpise...I ran around cleaning bathrooms and such...but I was smiling the whole time!)
