Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This summer I will log many hours in the sun at soccer camp, baseball camp, Little league games, YMCA games, etc. . .

I'm not big on dropping the kids off at parks for camps when I don't know any of the adults around. So, we hang out and watch.

Does anyone have any ideas on portable umbrella type shade options. We'd like to stay out of the sun. My daughter looks like her Sicilian father and my other two little ones look like their Irish mother (blonde & fair). They will fry in the sun--like mom!

Are there any umbrella or tarp type things out there that people have had success with?

Any ideas?

There are both umbrellas and sun shelters at this website

http://www.coolibar.com/shade.html

I have found this company's products to be high quality, but you might google search to find similar items, especially hats, at more affordable prices.

The Australians are far ahead of us in America with this type of material/clothing/hats featuring sunscreen protection.

Sarah, I do not have any recommendations but a word of caution. I bought a large sun/umbrella at the end of last summer (on clearance).

I used it for the first time this weekend. It has been 85-90 degrees the past three days here in NE Ohio. My oldest son had 6 ballgames in the past couple of days and I brought the umbrella along to protect Annie (6 mos.) and Mary ( 3 yrs.). Both of the girls were under the umbrella the entire time and both are now sunburned. Annie, especially, is very pink.

I did not realize that the umbrellas do not provide complete protection from the sun, or at least this one didn't. Maybe the better ones are labelled as to what type of protection they give but mine did not. I just assumed...wrongly so.

Thanks ladies.

I've seen the UV umbrellas and I guess that's the way to go plus sun block.

I wish ds- 10 months would keep a hat on!

I also saw those little pop-up cabanas, but we're already such a public spectacle with all our kids amongst the anti-kid crowd at the game. Every other year I'm pregnant!

Maybe I'll just go with the umbrella.

Have you considered a solarveil sling or wrap? They are cool and block much of the UV rays. Baby will still need a nice sun hat. Wallypop offers the best prices on solarveil slings or wraps. I prefer wraps for versatility. www.wallypop.net
