Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday I was in MIchaels with ds, and we came upon a shopping cart left in the middle of a very busy aisle. Right in the front of the cart was a woman's rather large purse with her iPhone plopped right on top of it. There was no owner in sight.

I was astonished that someone could be so careless, especially at this time of the year. The store was extremely crowded (check out line was 15 deep!), and I noticed several men wandering around in the store- men apparently not attached to a wife or kids. That seemed very odd to me. Were all these men having Modge Podge emergencies at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday? Really?

Anyway, I stood by the cart with the abandoned purse and phone and said in a very loud voice, "Wow! Look a this! Someone left her purse and phone right out here in this cart. Anyone could steal it!"

After a few seconds (during which ds was slowly dying of embarrassment), a woman hurried up from down another aisle.

Let's all remember to be careful this time of year and not tempt thieves (or weird people who might embarrass their kids ).

We have had a rash of car break-ins in our county recently. Common denominator? Unlocked cars.

We have this problem around here too. There have been several cases of country folk leaving cars unlocked with purses in them! One lady had her purse stolen twice in the same month because she couldn't break the habit of leaving purse in car and door unlocked. I didn't feel sorry for her after the second time. I had a friend who would leave stuff for me to pick up in her car at work (medium sized town) and the door was unlocked, keys in it, and her purse sitting in the seat. I had to do this several times so she always left her car this way at work. To trusting if you ask me!

This is mind boggling to me.

I worked for someone who would stop at a convenience store for coffee each morning, leaving his car unlocked and running. He did this for years without incident. Then he bought a new Mustang. He had it for exactly a week...guess where it was stolen?

Well, here in small-town northern MN, everyone leaves their cars running, unoccupied, in the winter. It's called warming up the car. I've never heard of anyone having a problem. I probably wouldn't leave my purse in it, though.

It is common here too for warming up a car - but I have a friend whose car was stolen when they did this. It was found wrecked a couple days later.   And since that happened, we don't do it, unless we are watching it from the house and can easily get outside.

I can warm up the car in the driveway but here we have people leave cars running while they're in stores.. like Safeway and you can't even see the car. Now if it's that cold.. I take a spare key and I can leave the car running AND lock it.

It is actually illegal in many places to leave a car running and unattended. You could get a ticket for it.

That's what I was thinking- if you had to leave it running, it seems like a no brainer to take a spare key and leave it locked. But I did not know that is illegal! Thank goodness I live in the south....

This time of year there are a lot of mailbox thefts as well, so it's a good idea to take any mail with money or checks in it (like bills) to the post office.

Just for fun: here is Steve Spangler showing you how to unlock your car with water. I also did not know the brain trick for finding your car in a large parking lot. I am keeping that in mind!

Drive a 15 passenger van.. even in a large busy parking lot it's pretty easy to pick out. I noticed that I'm not so good at remembering where the car was when I'm with someone else these days.. figure it's because I don't have to remember with my van.

Hey, thanks, very fun video. My son tells me he knew this already about the remote...    And I am trying to figure out the location of that parking lot as it is local (Steve Spangler lives here) - I think I know.   Speaking of local - in the opening credits to this video show, there are some shots with lots of colored balloon tubes in a stadium. I am in those pictures with my kids though they more too fast and it is too far away to pinpoint. We were front row in that section.
