Most 3 and 4 year olds still can't be asked to do a task like 'put on your shoes' and reliably follow through without mom checking up on/reminding them . . . right?

And it's normal for preschoolers to have trouble remembering rules like 'don't take things off the kitchen counters without asking' and following directions like 'hold this box of crackers, but don't open it until after we have paid for it' . . . right?

90% of me thinks this is all normal, little kid behavior, but there is 10% screaming THEY SHOULD BE CATCHING ON BY NOW!

Be reassured...

this is totally normal. Still frustrating, but normal. It's impulse control, which is in pretty short supply with the preschool set. It does get better, noticeably so in the next couple of years!

The shoe thing...
Some are teens and need those little reminders more than ever. I am not sure that this is encouraging news

Yes, Sara, I have both a 3 and a 4 yo, and it's totally normal! And yes, sometimes it's an issue with the 10 and 12 yos too... I have thought for some time now that I seriously need to work on the habit of attention with my guys, but I keep forgetting to follow through!
