Anyone else in the Christmas mood! I know - its not even Thanksgiving! But - I just got a nativity set for my mantel (had one but not anymore - don't ask!). Anyway - I cleared my fireplace mantel to see if the pieces fit and they do - with 2 candles on either side! I WILL wait to put up the tree until the weekend after Thanksgiving! But - I started listening to Christmas music in the car today - the Christmas spirit has gotten hold. . . . .

My mind is still at the beach. We've had gorgeous weather. What holiday is next week?

OH it's cold.. we've had a few snow showers.. you bet.. I LOVE Christmas music.. it's my happy music.. I've been caught listening to it in July.
I've been Christmas shopping so I have a good idea what to look for when I'm in a larger town. I know I can get the candy and such for stockings here in town so that will roll into the regular budget grocery shopping.
I got a new Advent wreath.. it's so pretty.. uses tea lights and has glass chimney's in purple and pink. I want to get a garland of mini ivy or holly to wrap the brass base with.
I have some new books for Advent and I'm so excited to get to use them.
I watched the Polar Express last night while sorting socks.

We have had bunches of snow already. The second snow I started playing some music. This weekend it was fairly warm and we put the extension cords out to the chicken coop and my tree in the field. Ds turned on the fir tree in the field last night because, "I knew it would make you happy, mom." But, I made him turn it off until after thanksgiving OR more snow. Something about Christmas lights and snow makes me all warm and cozy.

I've been planning and purchasing. I'm excited to start our Advent school plans! That's about it though.
I normally enjoy some winter weather, but this year I'm not liking the cold weather. Looking forward to snow though. I'm confusing that way!

Snow on the ground here- Thanksgiving is long gone in Canada and it feels like Christmas is coming fast! It sure helps it come quickly when you start your Christmas knitting with 6 weeks to go- every day counts

I have most of our shopping done and 75% of the wrapping. My stepmother works for the postal service and does her shopping before the holiday rush, having the packages sent here, and I've wrapped those, too. I'm also knee deep in Christmas picture books and Advent plans.
I understand and share the frustration with having Christmas commercialized so early, but honestly, I like being able to have my plans and purchases mostly done before Advent so the season itself is more enjoyable. I do wish that American tradition was more firmly rooted in the Catholic liturgy like European traditions are. Then, the distinction between preparing for Christmas and celebrating it would be more clear. I'm definitely THINKING a lot about Christmas these last few weeks.

I haven't been excited this year at all so far. Too much other stuff. Dh is talking about going shopping, but until he has money coming in, we don't have any to shop with! I make enough to cover our necessities and prior commitments(aka - cell phones) but not much else.
I don't know what we're going to do.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer

I've been shopping online, anticipating some major health and dental appointments in the coming weeks. The last shipments have arrived and it's comforting to know family members will not feel forgotten if I'm under the weather or less available throughout the holydays due to appointments or recovery.
Thanks to you wonderful ladies this thread inspired me to set up our outdoor nativity set today, along with a garland and lights, before the snow flies! Now, I just need to set out Advent and Christmas books/music. Thankfully, we already have extra Advent candles, purchased sometime back, so we're all set for this year's Advent wreath (and next year's as well)!
Just after All Hallow's Eve, our local Dollar Tree had some lovely Nativity gift bags and sets of candles that are perfect for the luminaries we'll take to the cemetery for Christmas, making me so very grateful for early stocking on the part of merchants! I'm really looking forward to praying for the Poor Souls this Christmas!
God has been ever so gracious in allowing things to fall gently into place this year, in spite of whatever limitations present themselves! May all your needs and concerns be kissed with the same profound grace and immense peace the Holy Family experienced once upon a time in Bethlehem! May all our families find Room for a Little One in our hearts and in our homes this Advent and Christmas! A couple grandchildren, and a friend's newborn, are receiving stuffed donkeys and boardbook versions of the linked book, serving as blessed reminders to make room for our Lord in all our holyday undertakings, as well as the truth that even God's humblest creatures can serve the Lord in mighty ways!

I'm so happy to see you're in the mood already Barb as I know you had a rough couple of years. May it last and allow you to spread the beauty and holiness of the season to others.
