What do you bring to a potluck barbeque?

Love,

Potato salad with a vinaigrette dressing instead of a mayonnaise dressing or sugar snap peas with a yogurt dip.

7 Layer Bean Dip
dh Tuna Macaroni Salad
Watermelon
Corn on the Cob (with a stick of butter melted in a Mason Jar of hot water. Butter floats, dip in the corn and pull out a perfectly buttered piece of corn. Salt generously.)

We always serve potato salad, baked beans, corn on cob, and deviled eggs with BBQ. Also a green salad or cole slaw.

The Suddenly Salad (Ranch-Bacon flavored) is delicious too.

I sometimes take sliced watermelon or brownies. We're having a bunch of family over Sunday and they're bringing: Baked Beans, Fruit Salad and Chips. I'll be serving Deviled Eggs and a Relish tray along with the meat.

Sarah...do you have recipes for the 5 Bean and Coleslaw that you could share? I'm having a craving especially for Coleslaw.

Or anyone else? I love the coleslaw with a vinaigrette or white vinegar dressing...not the mayonnaise type.

Publix was serving Cheeseburgers and Corn and Black Bean Salad yesterday and the recipe for the salad was simple, cold, delicious = Perfect!

Corn and Black Bean Salad

1 (10-ounce) box frozen whole kernel corn
3–4 green onions
1 (15-ounce) can black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 (8-ounce) container pre-diced tomatoes (1 1/2 cups)
1/2 cup mojo marinade
1 tablespoon honey

Steps
1. Place corn in colander and rinse with cool water to thaw. Drain well and place in large bowl.
2. Chop (rinsed) green onions finely; add to corn.
3. Stir in remaining ingredients; chill until ready to serve.

Of course, I adapted and used a can of corn, chopped an onion and tomato myself, but the Mojo Marinade was fabulous - very grapefruity and made the salad

My favorite black bean salad sort of "happened" last summer while I walked through the grocery store, talking on my cell phone, about an hour before a church picnic. As I moseyed, I picked up a large container of fresh]salsa, a can or two of black beans, a small bag of frozen corn, and an avocado or two. Rinsed the beans, diced the avocado into pieces the same size as the tomatoes in the salsa and ran the corn under water to defrost. I mixed it all together in a big pasta bowl and served with hearty tortilla chips (Tostitos Gold). Some people scooped with the chips, some ate it with a fork. The vegetarian in our midst made it her main course. It was a HUGE hit and quickly become our favorite sumertime take along. (makes a bit of a mess at the pool if the kids are dipping...)

Sounds yummy. Does the avocado turn brown, or being mixed with the salsa keep it green?

It doesn't turn brown. This is the ultimate toddler recipe, Jenn. Just lots of dumping into the bowl and a little stirring with a wooden spoon!

Thanks! We have a trip to TJs soon that I'll grab the ingredients. The organic Frozen corn at Trader Joes is the best, sweetest, crunchiest, closest-to-fresh I've ever found. I get everyone raving about it. Plus their fresh salsa is good, too.

Angie, we have made fruit and cheese skewers for the kids (though adults like them too) ~ just chunks of melon and mild cheese, strawberres and kiwi threaded on a wooden skewer (or if there are really little ones present, on a straw).

Small tart-size quiches are usually a hit.

And another family favorite are blondies, cut into small squares.

A Bahamian friend taught me the ultimate Avocado trick this year. Leave the seed in the bowl with whatever you've made (guacamole especially) and it never turns brown. Also doesn't change flavor of dish like adding citrus does.

Oh, I thought I would also mention that because my youngest can't tolerate nitrates, we bring his own hot dogs ~ Applegate Farms Uncured Hot Dogs. They're actually very good!

I'll have to look for those. I haven't introduced hot dogs yet. My husband just had a choking spell this weekend with a hotdog, which makes me want to push back introducing for a LONG time. But we love the nitrate free bacon. I won't buy anything else now.
