As I was shopping at the Farmers Market this morning,I started thinking about my favorite scents, flowers mostly. Here are mine:
Gardenia (I had these for my wedding)
Honeysuckle
Magnolia
Lavender
Orange and lemon blossoms
Floral Citrus scents...like lemon verbena
I can't stand musky scents like patchouli.
So, what are your favorites?

Mmmm . . . I'm pretty eclectic. I do like musky scents (though I've never worn patchouli, which can be a bit much), but also florals -- honeysuckle, gardenia, magnolia, and rose. I love roses! All the climbers I planted this year I chose for hardiness and *smell.*. I want to go outside in the spring and summertime and smell roses!
I also adore lavender -- it's probably my favorite thing to smell like, though I don't often wear scent. And I love rosemary.

Roses, tuberose, freesia, gardenia, honeysuckle, and also citrusy scents like lemon and grapefruit and herby scents like basil, mint, and lemon verbena.
Not a fan of the musky scents. Reminds me of the 70's when everyone both looked and smelled like Janice Joplin
I do like outdoorsy scents, though, like pine or cedar.

Now I'm wondering what Janice Joplin smelled like.
I love all kinds of scents, including patchouli, lemon verbena, etc. My problem is finding a scent that I like on myself.
Any suggestions? Like perfumes you actually use? I've stopped using perfume years ago because my nose just became too sensitive (motherhood?).... but I'd like a fresh-out-of-the-bath scent to use once in a while, one that will actually stay on me at least a few hours if not more.

My Great grandmother LOVED roses. But she was terribly allergic. She loved them so much that when they had their house built, she had rose bushes put in anyway. Her bathroom ALWAYS smelled like roses. I still buy that soap she used every now and again when I miss her.
Years later when she went to the allergist, they discovered she was no longer allergic to the roses!
I however truly love the smell of lilacs and lavender. And yes I like patchouli too but hubby cannot stand that smell.
Oh well.

Me, too, Stef. I've never found a perfume I could wear consistently. I've always been prone to headaches from heavy perfumes. I'd love to find something that was light smelling and non-chemically. Maybe a powder even? I just hate the idea of putting something on my skin that I would not eat, iykwim.
I think I gravitate towards citrus and fresh smells. I love putting our rosemary, lemon, and vanilla to simmer, and in the winter, I like orange, cloves, and cinnamon. I bought the new Mrs. Myers "radish" scented cleaner for something fresh and new when I was doing my Spring cleaning just before Easter. I sounds odd, but I really like it! It is pleasant but not overpowering to me.
But as much as I like vanilla, I don't think I could ever wear it, and I like the smell of dried lavendar a lot, but once it is concentrated as in an essential oil, it makes me feel ill. Same with a lot of other floral scents. I'm easily overpowered by them, and they make me feel cloudy (allergies maybe?) whereas a citrus smell is invigorating. A friend gave me a rosary made from crushed rose petals, and I could never use it without having to offer it up I do love the way my hands smell after I've handled fresh lemon thyme. I probably should grow more lemony herbs in the garden
My shampoo is pomegranate (though, I don't shampoo daily, so it isn't reliable as a daily scent for me), and I've always liked melon-y scents, so I guess fruity smells are something I like, too.

Here is a link for an organic perfume oil. I have gotten the sampler and they are all very nice. I rarely wear any type of scent because I am so sensitive to them, but this worked for me in small doses

My perfume is Vanila Fields.. a light floral with vanilla to warm it up.
My favorite scent though I think is cinnamon. That's my #1 favorite for candles until it gets warm outside and I don't care for much of any scent.
A spearmint eucaplyptus soap is just lovely fresh and clean smelling without being cloying. The two scents seperately are nothing like what they end up combinted.
I love jasmine and honeysuckle.
Oh I also really like a light coconut.. not the heavy suntan lotion smell but a light fruity coconut.. I have a truly lovely lotion that is coconut and banana from Chandler Farm and a bath and body works one that is coconut lime.

Actually, I have NO IDEA what Janice Joplin smelled like, but the very heavy, musky perfumes were popular amongst the artistic/drug set in the 70's, so I imagine she smelled like that...and I don't like that heavy musk scent at all. I always visualize a yak or something (when I'm not visualizing Janice Joplin!)

I love scents. I love perfume. I have quite a few favorites:)
For the home, and in general:
Roses
Lavender
Orange blossoms
Lemon
Basil
Tuberose
Gardenia
Wood smoke
Church incense
Cinnamon
Magnolia
Lily of the Valley
Vanilla, if it's clean and bright, not musky
And for perfume for me, I love very feminine smells. Not so much into musky, oriental-based scents.
DH loves my Angel perfume, which has quite a lot of vanilla, chocolate, and warmth. Is smells more sophisticated than food, I promise
I've worn other beautiful perfumes over the years, and I love Aqua Di Parma, Chanel Mademoiselle, and Jo Malone Orange Blossom.
My mom has always had a love for scents in the home, and for perfume, and she and my dad always bought me a new perfume for Christmas:) in fact, for my birthday this year, I got two new scents:) I happen to love scent association: dearly loved Grandma= lily of the valley. Cosy day at home= earl gray. On days when nothing else is going right, I can still light a candle, spray on some perfume, and totally change my mood:)

I am not one for scents in the home, unless it is coming from the kitchen. I guess I have become very sensitive to smell over the years, like Stef, I think it is connected to pregnancies and hormones...
I love taking walks and getting whiffs of lavender or roses or or or along the way, sometimes turning my head to discover what exactly gave off that exquisite scent... I love the scent in the air after a spring rainfall.
I do have a perfume from L'Occitaine(sp) with a peach note, but I rarely use it. In general I do like light fruity scents as perfume, but not too sweet.
And as mentioned above: Incense which lingers in a Cathedral or Church from the previous Mass and you not only smell it but can still see a haze wafting high overhead.

I don't wear perfume anymore, but I love floral scents, citrus, and beeswax! The smell of real beeswax candles makes me happy.

I started the thread, but I never wear the perfume. Scents go bad on me really fast...very few things smell good on me.
I just tried on some essential oils at a party last night and I was stinking by the time I came home. Dh did NOT like it!
Oh yes, BEESWAX! Absolutely love it!

YES - my very favorite floral scent!
This thread is so fun - I love scents...very much make me think of times and places.
Other favorite florals:
honeysuckle
jasmine
gardenia
lily (Easter)
rose (faint like rose water)
any fruit blossom (apple blossom, cherry blossom, etc.)
I also really like rosemary. My youngest son hates it and so can't really have it around. He gets a headache when I have it in the house.
Sagebrush is another big favorite - probably pretty particular to a southern Idaho girl with a range conservationist father . That is one scent I can't find anywhere. So I enjoy it when I go home and take sprigs back with me.
Love citrus scents - any and all including combination scents - orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit. Anyone remember Love's Lemon Skinny Dip perfume? A teenage favorite of mine - am I dating myself??
Spicy scent favorites:
cinnamon and clove (or combos - ie pumpkin pie, gingerbread spice)
frankincense
myrrh
liturgical incense
chrism oil
And I love the fragrance of this lotion - cocoa butter....
Discovered it a few years ago. My dad was using it around the time he died. Should be a bad memory but it is a good one - and when I use it I think of him (like the sagebrush... )

Citrus! Especially grapefruit and bergamot...
I LOVE frankincense also but not myrrh... myrrh smells like death to me... appropriate given its history.
Agree on the spearmint eucalyptus blend.
And agree on lilac ruling the floral class.
Some scents that are very popular that I don't love are lavender ( I don't dislike it... Just neutral feeling) and vanilla.
Other good smells in life:
Holy chrism!
Fresh wood chips
Leather
Beeswax
Clove
The world after a quick, unexpected rainstorm
Homemade bread baking
