Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Greetings All. I am Judy Fiorello of Williamsburg VA and new to the group. I am a retired AF wife of 26 yrs and a mom of four (21ds, 19ds, 8dd, & 7dd). Obviously the older two are graduated. I homeschooled them most years and they spent a couple years in Catholic Schools. The oldest son is in the Marines & the other in Community college. Our younger girls are being homeschooled. My DH is a cradle Catholic & me a convert in 1998. Our children have all been raised Catholic since birth.

As far as curriculum -I use an eclectic bit of things.
Blessings, -Judy

EDITED by moderators, 5/28/13 - Introductions posted this past week have made us realize that a new 2013 intor thread was never started (and we are 5 months into the year   ). So I'm starting one and moving current intros into it.

I'm Rebecca. I'm new here. I live in a small-ish town Michigan and have for my whole life. My husband and I have been together since I was 16 and he was 18 and will celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary this fall. I was homeschooled from 7th grade through graduation and now I'm homeschooling our children. Vera is 11, Leo & Zoe are 9, Henry is 8, Molly-Kate is 6, Oliver is 2 and Emma & Ada are 9 months. Yes, two sets of twins! Between homeschooling, chasing my little ones and having a small farm there is never a dull moment. My oldest is gifted, I also have advanced, average and struggling students and I tend to question if I'm giving them enough work and they are being challenged enough or to much. I'm especially thinking about the fall when my oldest will be in 7th grade. We've had a pretty good year this year but plan to switch some things up for the fall. Looking forward to posting more. I'm glad to have found more Catholic Homeschoolers! :)

Welcome, Rebecca. I think you will love it here!

I love the names of your children. We know two local families with two sets of twins. We have also spent a lot of time in Michigan as my mom was born and raised in Grand Rapids.

God bless,

You have an Ada! I can't believe it! I thought I had the only one in the Western world any more.

Mine is 19 and a college junior this fall . . . but her best friend through most of high school was named Emma . . . So that's a little wild.

Anyway, welcome!

Sally

I'm sorry, I'm hijacking your introduction with my own stories, but my sister has an Oliver and a Henry (and Arthur after our grandpa). Oh, and Vera, I had and aunt Vera. Sweet! :)

I'm a hijacker, too. So, my Ada is also named after my great-grandmother. Parallel lives! Meanwhile, I have a Ben whose entire name came straight off a family gravestone, and my youngest daughter's name is a catch-all of family names we had to hurry up and use . . .

Welcome again!

Sally

Welcome, Becca!

I was born and raised in MI,and my parents and much younger brothers still live in lovely rural MI, so hello to a fellow Michigander-by-birth! The one thing I was so happy about when I met my husband and decided to move to where he lived in WI was that the climate and flora are very similar, as I love MI and the rural beauty we so loved when we moved out the country. I loved living out in the country when we moved there when I was 17, and I knew that was the life I *always* wanted.

We have a small farm here, too. We just had our first baby goat! Isn't it great raising kids(human) in the country? We love how our kids love to garden and care for the animals, and living in the oudoors so much. It's great!

I love all your children's names, their beautiful. We had boy/girl twins as our second babies, too. The pregnancy and first 3 months of their life was hard, but they are a LOT of fun. We get a lot of friends telling us how we "could have twins again, you know" being that they were fraternal, and some think it's funny to say we could have triplets! Did you notice if it was any different with the first or second set? Easier/harder? Was the pregnancy physically harder, after multiple pregs. in between? Don't want to hijack your thread , I've just never gotten to talk to someone IRL who has more than one set of twins.

Do you find it hard to not expect more from your other children since your oldest is gifted, and studies must come so easy to her? I have the opposite, where our oldest is a struggler, but I've learned a lot since we first started, and come to accept her differences, and know them, and tailor things to her needs. I find it hard now to reverse what I've had to relax with her, and challenge thew younger ones enough. But, we love homeschooling!

I was homeschooled from an older age, as well. We started when I was I 5th grade, and I LOVED it. I am so grateful to my parents, esp. my Mom for taking that leap of faith and doing things that were not easy. She got a lot of flack from parents and teachers at our Catholic School, and even my one of my brothers and yet, she stuck to it, and gave us all the best she could. My Dad has been great too, he has been a bigger part of teaching than many homeschool Dad's, for which he deserves a lot of credit.

So do you guys use a curriculum, or eclectic? We do some of both. We use some of CHC, some of Seton, and for Math we put together our own thing, as well as supplementing with other materials, for religion, and reading.

Well, God bless your great family! Welcome!

You guys aren't hijacking at all! It's okay

I absolutely *love* raising country kids. I wasn't raised on a farm but had family who had farms and I always knew it was where I wanted to be. My parents actually owned a small store in town and we lived in the apartment above it. As far as being a second generation homeschooler, I am SO glad my parents decided to homeschool us. That was early days when it was people thought you were completely nuts, now it has gotten a bit better . My siblings and I all went to Catholic Elementary school that only went up to 6th grade. We all started Community College at 16. I have 6 younger sisters and two older brothers so I come from a big family too.

Thanks for all the compliments on my kids names. My second set of twins the pregnancy was a lot harder, I actually went into labor at 30 weeks and they were both breech so I had to have a c-section. Luckily none of us had any problems.

About my oldest being gifted, I have had to remember to adjust my expectations. Especially considering she was reading at 3 with no instruction from me. When my next two were 7, Leo still weren't reading fluently and I stressed a lot over it but eventually he got it!

For curriculum we use a mix of things. Some Kolbe, Essentials in Writing, Catholic Textbook Project, Memoria Press, Teaching Textbooks, Life of Fred, Exploration Education Physical Science and lots of books! I also get some stuff online.

Hope I remembered everything you guys asked.

I think this is the right place to post my introduction, so here it goes. I'm Amy K. from East Bernard, Texas, a rural Czech-American town southwest of Houston. My husband Chris and I just celebrated our 17th anniversary (even though we've been a couple for 24 years). I'm a 41yo mom of 7 children, ages 3 months to 16 years. We've homeschooled since our oldest was 5yo. I'd like to learn more from Catholic homeschooling moms who prefer "natural" learning methods. Thanks!
