Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies,

I am very blessed to be able to take my ds13 on pilgrimage to France and Rome! We are also going to London to stay with a friend before we head to France. II have been saving for this for years, and it's finally about to happen

Have any of you been and stayed in convents or monasteries that you would recommend? I have found one in Paris called Ephrem Guesthouse. It's right next to Sacre Coeur. We would like to stay in Lourdes and Rome with a religious community.

Thanks,
Tricia

I have traveled in Rome and in France, but have not stayed in convents or monasteries. However, I have a guidebook I can recommend - Good Night and God Bless, Vol. 1.

I've reviewed this book and would be happy to send you a link to my review if you PM me. Don't really want to self-publicize here...that's not my mission.

If you would like suggestions for what to do with a 13 year old in Rome, again you can PM me, or start a new thread here at 4Real. (I'd suggest the second option, so that other members can see that Rome can be fun for young teen boys.)

When I traveled to Italy many years ago, my husband and I stayed in religious houses, and we loved it. The places are always clean and breakfast (cocoa and bread!) was always served with a smile...usually by an elderly nun in a beautiful habit.

The only drawback of staying at the religious houses is that they often have an early curfew...some can be as early as 10pm, which may not be a problem for you since you are travelling with a young teenager.

Hope you are blessed with a happy trip!

(Just seeing that you are from Australia...that is sort of a dream destination for my husband's and my 25th anniversary! Who knows if that will come to fruition!)

Thanks for the book recommendation Nancy. Please do pm me with your review link.

I took your suggestion and started another thread. I know exactly what I want to do in France (Lisieux, Nevers, Lourdes) but am less sure about Rome except for the obvious.

Thanks Laura. The curfew shouldn't be a problem. In fact it will stop me trying to do too much with ds in tow!

I hope you get to visit Australia for your anniversary. Hopefully it is far enough away for our dollar to fall to make it more worthwhile!

Tricia
