Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been working as the faith formation coordinator at my church this year. I took the job because the person before me made some wonderful changes to using Faith and Life bookd instead of the horrible books we had before. Our parish is unfortunately a very lukewarm parish. There is a lot of drama and very little concern about anything that matters. No one has kept this job for more than a year in a decade and I understand why.

So, I am trying to discern whether to do this again next year or call it quits. It takes substantial amount of time away from my family (10-15 hours a week). I have had to pay someone to clean my house because I didn't have time and we had to miss more days of school than I would have liked.

I took the job because I wanted to help my dying parish to revive. The kids are great. There is real potential there. However I just don't know if it is worth the sacrifice to my time and sanity to continue. I would love your advice and prayers. Thanks.

Will it take any less time next year because you have already laid the ground work?

Some things have helped me with similar discernment issues in the past:

~Is this action bearing enough positive fruit to warrant the sacrifices involved?

~Are sacrifices being made negatively impacting family life in any way which outweighs the good fruits being produced?

~Since our family comes to us directly from God, it seems fitting that their needs should always be our primary focus.

Praying for your discernment in this matter.
