I am happy to announce the the CM Institute (formerly Childlight USA) will be hosting a conference this year!
The conference will be held on June 13-15, 2013 at Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA .
Here is the registration and cost information
I have attend the conference three times and I LOVE it. The best part about it is that it is NOT a homeschooling conference. There are only limited vendors, like a used book sale and some Simply CM resources, but it's not about shopping. The group attending is made up of College Professors, Principals, Brick & MortarTeachers and Homeschooling Parents.
I always come away from this conference refreshed and energized to tackle my next year of school.
Here are my notes from last year so you can get a feel for what to expect.
I would love to have some friends to attend with this year!!!!!!!!!

Looks really good. I'm trying to figure out where Ferrum, VA is. I see it's near Roanoke, which is a much longer and harder drive for me. It's not looking hopeful.

Here is were it is on Google Maps
I think the setting (which is new this year) will be like a CM Retreat, but I agree that it's isn't going to be the easiest to get too. But, in the same aspect Boiling Springs, NC was in the middle of no where as well!
I know this doesn't apply to you, but many people volunteer to pick people up for the air port if you are flying in. There is every effort made to make this as easy as possible for people.

This is definitely on my radar!
I don't think this summer will be my summer to attend, but I'm so very hopeful that I can attend one of these soon! I really look forward to you sharing your notes again though, Betsy! I learned/gleaned much just from reading your notes last year!
I have no problem blocking out my calendar and flying in to where-ever-ville...as long as I don't have a 2 1/2 month old. If the baby were just a couple of months older, I'd be IN this year!! And I really can't wait to meet YOU, Betsy! Count on me being there one of these years - SOON I hope! This kind of conference is definitely right up my alley!
I think since this is an announcement of an upcoming event and not so much about the Philosophy of CM, I'll move this to Tea & Conversation...but if we do begin to get into Philosophy discussions (which you know I love! ), we can definitely have those conversations here!

I completely understand. But, if I offered to help you with the baby would that change your mind??

Thanks for putting this in the right spot. My thinking was that the *conference* is on the Philosophy of CM. But, yes, it's just an announcement.

It does indeed make it tempting!! But if I came, I'd just bring my teen dd to help! So, the help isn't really the problem...I just don't want to deal with the hassles of flying with a really little infant.

Let me think on it, Betsy. The Roanoke area isn't that far for me, relatively speaking . . . It would be a lot of fun, especially if a number from here end up going!

Oh, dear! I would love to come some day, but with the baby due July 27th, it's just impossible this year.
I do hope to hear about it again from those who can attend. I did so enjoy your notes you shared last year, Betsy!

So so tempting Betsy. I've been wanting to attend one of these for years. Maybe this will be the right summer . DH is at the bottom of his new department's roll call so I can only plan in six month increments. These dates fall during the start of the second rotation assignments for the year.
Wait and see for me

Lindsay, I want you to come too! But I understand. I know I have mentioned it in other conference threads but the first year I went I was due in 4 weeks. It turns out the baby came 2.5 weeks early and I started having contractions at the conference. I know that Carroll Smith just looked and me leaving the conference with a sigh of relief that he wasn't going to have to deliever a baby!

Jenny, I would love to meet you! I will add it to my prayers that this will work out. The time off for dh is usually one of the hardest things to coordinate! But, he know that I NEED this long weekend to prepare for our school year.

I'm seriously considering going to this conference. I think I can stay at VT with my daughter, only about 45 min away I think, or I'd be happy to split the cost of a hotel room with someone. This kind of event is so encouraging!
ETA: read to the bottom and see they have on campus housing available. I suppose there aren't any hotels in Ferrum,

Caroline it would be great to meet you. In the past almost everyone stays on campus. I know they do this to keep costs to a minimum! It's a bit of a trade of for having to bring your own sheets and blankets, but honestly, you don't spend too much time in your room....there is to much CM to talk about!!!

Hmmm, that is tempting Betsy. Will have to discuss with DH.
It looks like I'd need to leave Wed. afternoon to get there in time. If anyone else from the DC Metro is going perhaps we could carpool. Jenn - I think I'd be coming right by you if it would make a difference to your being able to participate.

Oh, Heather that would be wonderful! I have desperately wanted to visit when I am in DC but my trips have been very quick and exhausting!
I would love for you to come and grab a group from the DC area!

I wish I could add in the extra day! I have never been able to, however, I know people that have done this day and raved about it---even though it is different every year.

Haven't decided about that extra class yet, Kristin. But I do want to offer my home as a possible rally point for ladies coming from Northern VA and Western PA. I live near I-81 about 2 1/2 hrs. north of Roanoke. I'd be happy to have anyone come here to carpool. We have lots of off the road parking space and also a spare bedroom is you are coming from a long way and want to spend the night before traveling down to Roanoke with a group.
Jenn, would love to have you ride with me!
ETA: And I'd love to meet the rest of you, too! Jen Mac, you have a perfect excuse for staying home! Those first few months are such a precious and irreplaceable time.
