So we've talked about what we got and our favorites, but how about your kids?
What were the big hits this Christmas for them?
At my house the Magic Schoolbus dvd collection is a favorite. My dc were thrilled to have the whole set. They love Ms. Frizzle!
For ds I bought a set of colored Sharpies on a whim and put them in his stocking. He's always been a Sharpie fan and loves to draw. These have been a big hit for him.
The Klutz Nail art book is  for my dd.

My little also got the Magic Schoolbus this Christmas. We had to go to DC for one of my Doctor appointments and it took us over 9 hours to get home with the traffic. All of my kids were completely entertained watching over 3 DVD's worth of MSB. So....I can officially say that these were a hit in our house AND I can count my car trip as a day of school, right??

Kid-faves at our house:
College Girl: clothes for her Rome semester, a Barbara Pym novel
15-year-old son: a still-air incubator, for his bacteria-husbandry projects
10-year-old son: Star Wars Squinkies/Battle Pods. I had deliberated about buying them, since we'd already established that he wasn't getting the $400 Death Star Lego thing, and I was afraid that Squinkies might seem like a really lame little-kiddish substitute. But he LOVES them and plays with them constantly. He also really enjoyed Lloyd Alexander's The Castle of Llyr, which was the one book we didn't have of the Prydain Chronicles. It was driving him crazy not to be able to move forward in the series (and he didn't seem able to move on . . . as I child I just read random ones and didn't care that I didn't know the whole story, but he cares!), so he was VERY happy to get that book, and went on to devour the rest of the series in short order.
9-year-old daughter: a very inexpensive 18" doll that sort of looks like her (brown eyes/dark blonde-light-brown hair/glasses). She had wanted an American Heritage Girls doll, from the AHG site, but they're a hundred bucks, and you can buy uniforms separately, though they've been sold out. SO we got the cheaper dolly, and had her holding a note saying that she had joined AHG, but that her uniform wasn't in yet, which is kind of a real-life experience in our troop. This daughter also got an origami kit which has absorbed her, but the doll is her new best friend.
And of course the porch swing that was one of my favorite gifts is really a gift to everyone. Over time, I think it will be a family favorite, though right now it's really not warm enough to sit out there for long.
Those Klutz books are always so great, aren't they! And now I'm wishing I'd gotten Magic Schoolbus DVDs.

11YO boy - 3-person tent. He's moving up to Boy Scouts this spring (from Cub Scouts) and is happy to have his own tent. I think he'll be really excited when Cobblestone Magazine (the US History magazine) starts coming in the mail.
7YO boy - probably his Nahu Tablet that we got for him and his brother to share. Oh, and the Goosebumps movies my inlaws got him. He just loves those movies.
4YO girl - My Little Pony Castle that my inlaws got for her. She also loves the cash register she got.
3YO girl - has been playing a lot with all of her coloring books, sticker books, etc. At the moment, though, she really squealed when she opened the tiara/necklace/ring combo with flashing "gems" from her uncle.

Legos! We have a extra table set up for play and eating at the dining room table isn't happening with all the new sets. They got over 10 new sets between them! Of course, they like the Nook we got as a family gift. They have been playing apps and reading.

MSB videos also a big hit, plus TinTin Season 3. We had the car trips, too, so I know what you mean, Betsy!
Legos and Playmobil were the biggest hits. We have lots of little pieces everywhere. They also received books on building Legos. My little one turned 5 December 13 and has shown he can build just like big brother.
The Definitive Brother Juniper is a large hardback of all the Brother Juniper cartoons, and it's a constant companion.

Pretty sure the books were one of the biggest hits.
15 yr old got Regina Dolman books on Kindle - Shadow of the Bear, Black as Night and Waking Rose. (though the eyeshadow and the waffle iron for the family got good reactions too)
14 yr old got a pcket survival guide type of book.. he was difficult though, he'd bought with his own money (and permission) a Kindle Fire not long before Christmas so he's been rather preoccupied with that to the exclusion of everything else 
12 yr old got a couple more Horse Diary books and the pocket knife (she's been wanting) was a big hit too.
11 yr old got Shannon Hale's The Princess Academy and Palace of Stone in hardback (got the first one used so this wasn't cost prohibitive)
9 yr old got TWO more of the Tin Tin volumes that are hardbound with 3 books in each.. Not only is he enthralled, his birthday is coming up and he wants MORE 
8 yr old is borrowing the Tin Tin volumes but he got a couple of Jan Brett picture books that he'll love having read outloud.
6 yr old also a couple of Jan Brett picture books that she's been having other read.
The 3 little guys all got board books several Sandra Boyton books.. always fun.. plus We're Going on a Bear Hunt and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom  Since I have to read these over and over.. had to get something I like too 
DH got a book on the tragedy of the Thirty Mile Fire.
hmm I didn't get any books.. that's ok, I'm loving my lotion and scarves.
We also got a family gift of 2 waffle irons and an electric griddle.
I really think that overall, the books then the waffle irons were the favorites.. and THEN the toys

11-year-old boy: Swiss army knife, Leatherman skeletool, hatchet, knife sharpening stone (yes, we had a theme!)
1-year-old boy: wooden hammer-the-pegs toy - the y-chromosome was very obvious, as he instinctively knew JUST what to do with the hammer, and clutched it in his little hand until he fell asleep!

Lego The Battle of Helms Deep - I purchased this on sale at Fred Meyer for considerably less.
Playmobil Soldier Fortress with Lighthouse
Stick horse, Duplo Cinderella's Castle, and Little People Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - My youngest daughter is enjoying all of her presents.
Little People Lil' Shepherds - I wish that there was more than one shepherd included with this set.
Our family favorites are Qwirkle, this puzzle, and Lego bricks. The latter were given to two of my sons by their grandfather, but all of the children are using them.

Yup. Except our we have Wii not xbox. Even my grown boys enjoy the younger boys Legos.

So funny to watch this. My 11YO used to spend his Christmas mornings building Lego creations. The past two years he seems to have outgrown them for some reason. He did get the Lego Minecraft set and (I am amazed!) he still hasn't put it together!

This book, The Hobbit Chronicles put out by WETA got the top marks by all kids here. My dh picked it out independently and the kids love it- they are reading it, drawing from it, studying it (dd wants to go into costume design) and just loving it.
The other favourite was Dominion: The Dark Ages

Santa brought my youngest a Hugglepod Deluxeand it has been a big hit. Her older sister and one of her older brothers keep sneaking into it when she's not there, so it's a hit all around!
