Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So how do I break it to my dearest friend that her planned stay at my house right after Christmas cannot happen. She and her two kids are really looking forward to this and it is the only time they can make it but My kids have all been sick for over a week and I just got it three days ago. I have not cooked dinner in that time ( what have they been eating? I don't want to know!) let alone cleaned the house! Really it is a disaster. I would not care so much about the mess ( being sick has a way of making me not care) but the room they stay in is not presentable. The kids are getting better but not motivated to help at all.

Well, I would simply explain the problem and suggest that perhaps they could delay their trip a bit.. or she might offer to help with the cleaning.. I think I could handle that with a dearest friend as much as I'd prefer not to have to.. but since you have a good excuse (being sick) it might be easier than otherwise.

Bad germs in the house...enough said.

I would just be honest... you don't want to pass this on. She probably doesn't want to get it. The germs would put me off more than the mess.
I would be glad if my friend was kind enough to warn me off, even though I would also be disappointed.

I hope you feel better soon!
