I've been doing my online shopping this month. I've been struck on how many stores are out of stock on many items I want. Lego is one place. Amazon with certain Kindles are out. The Steelers and PSU stores are out of certain sizes.
It's not just the last week of shopping...I've noticed it all month different places. Of course, it doesn't help for last minute shopping....
Just complaining a bit. I'm also working on the family calendar with photos from the year. DH and MIL love this, and look forward every year. But it just takes me forever to organize my digital photos. I'm such a bad mom! Kicking myself as I do every year!

You know I was just telling this exact thing to my husband.
I am a very loyal Think geek buyer and was surprised at just how quickly things were out of stock these last few weeks.
I'm working on Christmas cards that announce the baby's birth as well as a Christmas message that has to do with Jesus. Talk about hard!

I have a gift on order since December 5th and I don't think it will make it here in time. I'm upset! I checked their FAQ and according to that and the email I got when I ordered it was suppose to be here by now. I went to the website and tried to figure out what was going on and found a different list of ordering deadline dates and it was so confusing I couldn't understand it as it gave two dates for the thing I ordered, but one of those dates would have been too late to get it in time. I sent them an email and complained.
I agree that stores sure aren't stocked well enough. I'm tired of things going on sale and they sell out before I even open the email.

Even our post office is out of holiday stamps. I think retailers cut back on inventory this year because they were afraid of having items left on the shelves.

I agree! In shopping for myself for cloths I have learned in the last 1.5 years that if I want it I need to get it NOW---because I have a hard to find size and it will be out of stock in a blink of an eye.
I think Stores are giving the illusion of being well stocked, but truly they have very low inventory on all of their items.
VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!

Yes! It is the same here: buy it when you see it or it will be gone .
I have to take the approach that it is better to buy and return if needed than to miss out on something you need.
Around here it is size 7 shoes and anything clothing-wise in Medium or Small- gone in a flash. Makes shopping very hard.
And here's a question: I'm forever seeing things on Amazon that say, "only
9 left in stock; order soon".
I have to wonder- is that a marketing ploy to get you to buy right now?
Or is it real? The items with that tag never do seem to go out of stock, whereas others do, or they become unavailable from the merchant you want.... sigh.

Our local stores have been downsizing inventory for several years, but I've noticed things seem to be even worse lately. I've had several items in our amazon cart and been emailed that they're no longer available. I wonder if it's a combination of the economy AND effects from Hurricane Sandy. A lot of manufacturers and distributors are located on the East coast, which could be impacting retailers and suppliers elsewhere in the U.S.
For stamps try online at stamps. I purchased Madonna and Christ Child Christmas FOREVER stamps earlier this year with part of our tax return, so I know they're also available other than the Christmas season FWIW.

Yes, I was emailed yesterday and told that several items I had ordered were on backorder. I canceled most of the order because I needed the things for Christmas. I am just hoping that my eldest son's gift arrives.

Melinda I've had an item I wanted be one of those "only X left in stock" and go out of stock before I could get it.
Though the best website I've ever seen for that is swimoutlet.com You can actually check their inventory on a particular suit to see how many they have of the size you want.. it's really cool.
And yeah, I've noticed things out of stock a lot this year.

For sure, Amazon means it when they say they are running out. Sometimes it will also say, "more arriving soon", or something like that, and you know you can wait. Other times, it will sell out and then become available at a different price. Occasionally, a non-Amazon retailer will have "one left" for a long time. I've definitely had something be all gone, though.
