Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay, so I know that everyone will have like a BAZILLION of these. Maybe that's what life is, just one realization after another.

BUT

Today I am struck by this one:

I had no idea it would be so hard to keep the furniture where I put it. I mean, I find an arrangement of furniture I like for the living room, and every. Single. Day. I have to move the chair, chaise, rug, and coffee table back into place. Not to mention all the crooked pictures.

I mean, I get clutter, messes from daily life, etc... Of course it is all more overwhelming than I'd anticipated, but I figured that life would involve tidying on some level, but I never thought large pieces of furniture wouldn't stay where I put them.

So which of life's mysteries has you kerfuffled this week???

hot glue on the bottom of the chair legs seem to help with them not sliding so easily on wood floors ;)

How no matter how well you think you've collected dishes and/or laundry.. there's always some piece that showed up when you think you're done (in the case of laundry it's always the dark colored item when you got the last of the dark colors into the washer or something similiar.. laundry is never all done )

Who knew that the biggest hurdle to going anywhere with multiple children is the FINDING of the shoes

Where are all the spoons?

I found five in the boys' room today. I don't know how many more are in there. Come to think of it, I don't know how they got in the room, since the boys all know that they are not allowed to eat in their bedroom. I am sure if I asked my sons, they wouldn't know how they got in the room either.

Boys...you have to love them.

I never expected to find the tv remote in the basement freezer... (maybe someone was sneaking ice cream during a late night movie?)

Things that vanish inexplicably on a regular basis:
socks
ponytail holders
spoons
pencils
gloves
my brain cells

JodieLyn said, "and while we're at it.. WHERE do all the pony tail holders go!??!!?!?!!?"

......check the boys' room, ten feet away from the rubberband guns!

Joann said, "I never expected to find the tv remote in the basement freezer... (maybe someone was sneaking ice cream during a late night movie?)"

.......That reminds me of the Cosby Show when Vanessa left her report in the freezer and everyone had been hunting all over for it! We tend to check the freezer first some days around here!!!

It really gets interesting when the problem of missing socks and hair ties turns into missing keys, which go AWOL on a regular basis, in spite of well-positioned key hooks and frequent reminders!

(Sorry, I don't how you all do those lovely yellow boxes for quotes.....and even if you tell me how, I'm bound to forget it anyway, since all my brain cells disappeared with Theresa's!!!)

Oh we have things go missing on a regular basis.. it's the ones that vanish for such a long time that is iffy. Often a small reward of $1-2 will motivate someone (or 2 or 3) enough to really hunt for the item until it's found.

And as far as the fancy quotes.. I won't give you the long do it yourself version.. but the upper right corner of each post has a "quote" button.

I'll see you ponytail holders and raise you to...Navy uniform parts! (Only one of us wears them...just sayin'!!!)

With so many Navy items to lose, it's no wonder I worry whenever uniforms and insignia become separated.

I still haven't figured out how long it takes to get out the door. I always think I have enough time, and almost never do, resulting in a hurried, "Come on! Let's go! We're going to be late!" I apparently say that often enough, that the other day we were headed somewhere and one of my kids asked, "So, how late are we?"

The mystery of the multiplying nerf gun bullets... Every time I turn around there is another one. And drink glasses on the counter. Where do they come from?

Where do all the pairs of scissors go?

And why can't the floor ever stay clean? I could vacuum or sweep on the hour here, 24/7

All of the above, but Lindsay, I thought I was the only one driven mad by the traveling furniture. I can very easily become deranged at, say, family prayers at night: "STOP moving the couch back! Just LEAVE the rug where it was. I PUT THAT CHAIR THERE FOR A REASON. Etc." A very holy experience for all. I think my craving for order and control reallyreallyreally manifests itself in things like that. I have actually said to more than one of my children that I waited a long time to be a grownup and have my own house, with things the way I want them, if they get my drift . . .

Lindsay,
Nice to know I'm not the only one!!! My family room furniture in on wood floor. I have the things under the legs that are SUPPOSED to stop them from traveling - but really!!! What bugs me is I put the couch smack UNDER THE PICTURE ON THE WALL - so it is centered there. Drives me nuts when I see it not centered anymore - PROOF THE COUCH MOVED!

Get this - I bought a coffee table - didn't know it had WHEELS. GEE. I look it up - the description says it is a heavy table so they put wheels on it so you could move it when you want!!!! HOW ABOUT IT MOVING WHEN YOU DONT' WANT! Coffee table doesn't move easily - but still does.

It isn't what I lose. It is what I FIND int he couch cushions - get this - BANDAIDS.   Yes, used, taken off -bandaids So, someone (i.e. 9 yr old boy) puts bandaid on, later doesn't need it, takes it off - puts in under the couch cushion?

I'm mean and took away the Nerf guns. They don't seem to pick up the bullets after they shoot. That was driving me crazy.

I know the answer to this one -- MY HUSBAND TAKES THEM AND USES THEM! They get broken or never returned.

THIS!!! And it doesn't seem to matter how early we start the getting-out-of-the-house process, we still end up rushing at the last minute.    We go out of the house nearly EVERY day, yet things are still forgotten (water bottles, jackets, etc).

And I am constantly amazed at how quickly the routine is forgotten--we do the same things in essentially the same order every morning, why do I have to remind children of what has to be done--especially when it is written in a list on the refrigerator?!?!

That felt good, thanks ladies!
