Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It always seems that you can rarely get Legos on sale or discounted prices....

Do you have favorite places to purchase Legos that are less expensive?

Any place that sells the LOTR for less?

The best bargains we've found are when the large sets are at Costco or BJs.

Also, if you keep checking Marshalls or TJMaax, they often have Lego in the toy section for a good price. It is hit or miss, of course.

I know Toys R Us was/has run sales that Buy One get 50% off second, and 10% off entire sale.

The grocery store at my MIL's in PA was selling Legos, Buy two, get one free, so I got a few options there.

But the newer sets, like Lord of the Rings, any online bargains?

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a bargain on the newer LoTR sets, Jenn. You're best hope *might* be an Amazon deal, but I've been watching like a hawk and haven't found anything...yet. I'll give a yell if I see something. I finally just ordered a couple LoTR lego sets for my boys this year. Best price I found on them was at Amazon.

I will be all ears if anyone does know of something!

Fred Meyer (Kroger) usually has a 25% off sale on Legos at least once a year. They had one in September and I bought some of the LoTR sets at that time. Amazon has LoTR Attack on Weathertop for 25% off the retail price.

The only set that I did not find at a discounted price is the Orc Forge. Since Lego says it is "hard to find", I paid full price ($39.99).

My children like having extra bricks around for creative building. Walmart currently has this 650 piece building kit for $15. Amazon and others sell the same set for $24.99.

The Lego site currently has 10% off and free shipping with some restrictions.

I have bought from various vendors here on bricklin--kind of nice if you just want some minifigs or something specific. Sometimes a vendor is selling newer stuff but it is the "ebay" of legos.

This website, Toys N Bricks posts Lego deals. You can browse through and see where things are on sale, as well as "news" about upcoming Lego sets and so forth. I believe it is updated regularly, so you can check back and see when new deals come up.

Just saw that they were offering an incredible good deal on the Homeschool Buyers Co-op but sold out already of every thing they were offering but one Duplo Set. Don't know how often they offer LEGO deals through Homeschool Buyers Co-op.

Claire and Laura, I did not know about those sites! I shan't show them to my sons.

I somehow missed that Co-op Deal. The last one I saw wasn't exactly what I wanted.

I'm over Duplos. I mean, we have a boatload of them, younger son plays, but he's ready to move up. So I don't want to buy more.

Thanks for all the great hints and tips! It's obvious that this is a very necessary item for households especially with boys.

Maybe I need to start a thread on Lego Organization? It's a pressing matter for us.

Lego Adventure Book

I hadn't seen this one before, but it looks really neat. It gives step by step photos showing how different items can be built (vs just showing pictures of already constructed items).

I think it would be good for getting the creative juices going.

Is this a new book?

Lego Brick City

It features famous buildings and other interesting items made out of Legos.
Looks really cool. The publication date says May 1, 2013. It has 258 pages

Right now Amazon has it for about $11 with Prime. I think that is a pretty good deal on this type of book. I may have to stash it for Christmas and/or birthdays

ETA: It comes with two posters that are supposedly suitable for framing.

It is new, and we just got it from our library yesterday. Very timely! Of course the library version has no posters (removed). It's really inspiring. There are many pictures of Lego creations of famous buildings and landmarks, like Chrysler Building, Eiffel Tower, etc. These don't have instructions, but many pictures that have closeups so your child might be able to deconstruct a bit.

But there are loads of instructions of smaller more related items. The most complex instructions in the book is for the Roman Colliseum, and I think that's worth the price of the book there. VERY cool. For the Amazon price, it's a steal. Definitely a Christmas book.

Our library also ordered The Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide 2nd edition, which is now in color. That I'm not sure if it's worth buying again just for color. Waiting to see the evaluation from my son. Of course he was more drawn to the Brick City.

Jenn-

The review said the author lists some tips on how to get good deals when buying legos. Was there anything worthwhile there?

Our library does not have this book yet- it may or may not get it. I never know. I did go ahead and order a copy to stash, though.

I'm glad to hear your good review!

It's not a huge amount of information, some of the advice is already here, but it's practical. The beginning section is really awesome and practice, talking about scale, color of bricks, the 10 most useful bricks, etc. Very good info!

If my library carries these books, I like to preview first before buying. I know it ruins the "surprise" factor, but they are still appreciated even after they have seen them before.

These guys are local to us Jenn...in fact Seton grads and one lives right around the corner from you...at least his family does

These are used legos. They buy them and then refurbish, add to them, etc, basically create "new sets" and resell..

Check them out:

This is the link to their web store front

This is the link to their storefront on ebay

Brick Link

we filled in extra pieces from the Kingdoms set to have enough kings/queens/crowns/thorns to recreate Cair Paravel.

I also got the Kingdoms Advent Calendar from here a couple of years ago for 1/3 I'd've paid in the store (and that included shipping) at a time when NONE of these calendars were to be found in ANY store.

:)

Right now on Amazon the Hobit Unexpected Gathering
is on sale for $56.

I have been watching this set for awhile, and this is the lowest price I've seen (about 20% off the Lego site price).

My dh also told me about the camelcamelcamel website that lets you track Amazon prices, and according to that site, the price for this set doesn't get much lower.

If you have Hobbit fans, this would make a nice Christmas present.
