Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need someone to help me figure out how to create a website or blog for our home school group. Here are some of the items we are interested in having online:

A private section for members to allow posting of activities, events, and other more personal information.

A calendar.

A public section for general information.

All this for free?

I'm not a huge tech person, but I grasp general concepts and my hubby can fill in the gaps. He just doesn't have any free time to help me out, so I'm kind of on my own.

Any catholic hosting sites? I see that he one our Diocese uses offers free hosting form ministries, but we are not a ministry of the Diocese.

Any ideas on how to set up a website, any tips, etc. Doesn't need to be huge, just a place for people to get into the loop with other Catholics in our area.

Thanks!

Our local homeschool group uses Shutterfly. It's a private group, otherwise I would link you to it.

It includes a calendar, tabs for upcoming events, a message board for upcoming activities, and (of course) you can store pictures on the site.

I know it's free. Otherwise, I don't know much more. It does seem to be very effective for the group I am in, though.

Our co-op is using Big Tent. I don't know if it has a public viewing ability. We love it. It is especially nice that my very talented co-teacher can upload her versions of the history sentences when she has come up with a different tune.

Good luck choosing!

We are a 501c, I wonder if I can get free hosting because of that?

Hmm, I could put up a simple blog and then link to the private Big Tent or Shutterfly. That way you could search for the group and then once a member be set up in the private accounts. Hmmm.

How is Big Tent different from Yahoo Groups?

Thank you for the Big Tent recommendation. That site is awesome!
