Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're going to Mexico in October, and I'm going to be in need of nice modest (not frumpy!) summery clothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't been having much luck finding anything. (I don't want low cut or sleeveless, although it's fine if it's a jumper that looks good with a shirt. It has to go below the knee, and not look like it's something from an 1800s catalogue.)
Also, any recommendations for travelling footwear? I'm afraid I'm hopelessly ignorant when it comes to travelling -- especially to hot climates.

I really like my jambu sandal/shoes. They market themselves as a travel shoe.

I've also found some nice, long dresses at both SoftSurroundings.com and SundanceCatalog.com, though sometimes it is hit or miss where they either have tons of things I like or nothing.

Can't go wrong with a pair of Birkenstocks. My favorite shoes and sandals! They have many, many styles to choose from.

So much of my wardrobe is from Sundance! Love them. But yes, there are a few items from them that I just scratch my head at... But over all, their sundresses are lovely! Boden also has lovely dresses, and they have them categorized as above knee, at knee, below knee. Happy shopping!

be sure and try birkenstocks (and any others you can) on before buying online or the free return shipping or something). I can't wear birkenstocks. And if you're going to be wearing them for a lot of walking you'll want to be able to try them on and then break them in before your trip.

And try landsend as well. Their summer stuff is mostly on sale at this point and the usually have shirtwaist dresses and some knit dresses and such.

That's good to note. My Mom bought my Grandma a pair of Birks (several years ago) and she couldn't wear them. They actually hurt her feet. .... I can't remember what the problem was, either she had flat feet, or really high-arches.

Lovely, Jodie! That style is flattering to nearly every figure type! ... and such a reasonable price, too.

there's a bone behind the toepads that on many people has broken (or broken down) or something like that.. anyway if it has one of the supports in the birks will push on it and hurts (if it hasn't broken then it's being supported and feels good)

I've got my eye on the Fall Blossoms Dress from Sundance.

...the trick to shopping at Sundance is to bookmark the site and check it very, very frequently. They have incredible sales and I shop their clearance and $30 and under section all the time. But their items go fast once they hit the sales section and the 6 to 12 size range gets taken-up pretty quick. I check their website like I check my email .

... this has nothing to do with dresses, but my husband wishes that I wouldn't shop at Sundance because it is owned by Robert Redford. My husband has serious feelings about Mr. Redford's anti-gun legislation efforts and his continued efforts undermine the NRA and their support of our right to keep and bear arms.

I understand this. But if the Fall Blossoms dress ever goes on sale, I'll probably still hit the "submit order" button.

I seem to have a bit of extra time on my hands today ...

Have you thought about getting a skirt(s), Syncletica? I like skirts because they are so versitile. You can dress them up with a nice top, a springy cartigan and pretty shoes, or dress them down with a casual tee and some flip-flops.

I happen to be wearing this one today. Pretty casual. But very versitile. I like it so much because it has a flat-panel waist and zip in the back. You can get it in a dozen different colors.

I'm wearing the desert colored one with my Chaco's, a white tank top and a light button-down shirt (not buttoned). You can always dress-up your look with accessories too (scarf, jewelry, etc.)

Eta - the skirt looks short in the picture, but it actually comes down just below my knees (I'm not quite 5'4").

You can add a camisole insert to make a revealing top more modest. It is cooler than having to wear a real camisole. I've not tried this brand, but I do like the ones which don't have the lace. I find the lace ones make it look like one's underclothes are showing.

Thanks for all these ideas! They're fantastic! I'll have to check everything out more closely later -- very busy painting our schoolroom -- decided at the last minute to move it downstairs. Painted it -- didn't like it -- now I'm redoing a few walls.

I am most certainly willing to get skirts as well.
I'm 5'5, so I think that cute skirt would end up going above my knees especially when sitting. Bummer.

Forgot to ask:
Jodie -- how long does that cute black and white polka dot dress go?
