Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Happy 'Official' Anniversary!

Not much here this week except decluttering the house (still), a birthday party with awesome food, and the start of AHG for dd. It's been a week of messed up school routines, yet we are learning more because I'm forgoing busy work and picking up the living books so much more these days.

Signed up the 2nd child for Parish classes and my mom finished explorer bags for my kids (bags to carry sketch book, pencils, found treasures and other important items for our nature walks). Looking forward to using them soon!

Peace!

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband, Angie!!

Nothing all that exciting this week here, which is really kinda nice. I had a good prenatal appointment earlier in the week: baby is head down and measuring on track, and I'm going in every two weeks now. I can't believe this baby's due date is getting so close--just five weeks out now! Coffee and dessert with a friend tonight. Nature study group at the lake on Friday. Barbecue at our CSA farm on Saturday. We're in our 7th week of school with no hiccups so far. And I got the two oldest signed up for their swim lessons starting next month. Other than that, cooking, cleaning--you know the routine. The weather here has been lovely this week, so that's been a wonderful bonus. And I just noticed the leaves of one of our maples beginning to turn...fall is in the air?

Well I'm still focusing on house building. Sugar soaped the final (front) wall yesterday, now have to 'coax' my teen boys to paint the eaves so I can paint the wall.

Am deep into final planning for our annual Catholic Homeschooling Camp, and then there is the launch of something very special in blog world coming....

And spring is only a couple of weeks away

Happy Anniversary Angie and Dave! And wishes for many more!!
Our big excitement yesterday was the hatching of 15 keets (baby guinea hens)! Our guineas make a lot of nests in the yard, but last year out of all the nests, only four hatched and and only one of those survived. It was great watching the babies work their way out of the shells.
We received some bad news this weekend. Our oldest son is being deployed to the Middle East for the third time, and his deployment starts in three weeks!
Our son John will be admitted to the hospital Monday, be attached to the EEG machine that measures brain waves, and will be weaned off of all his anti-seizure meds in the hopes that he will have a few seizures so that they can see what part of the brain that they originate from. Scary business. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.
I had planned on starting school this coming week, so I guess we'll be doing some "hospital" schooling.

It has been nice and cool here...makes me look forward to fall!

We had quite an eventful week...We had a family "going to college" party for Amy last Wednesday. We had all ten kids together and 2 grandparents---plus assorted boyfriends and girlfriends. (One of the "new" boyfriends were amazed at the amount of people at our little family get together )

On Friday dh, I and Amy headed out on the long 7 hour trip to Christendom College.. We enjoyed a family dinner with Amy and then said our goodbyes. I did better than I thought I would do...but we sure do miss her. But I know she is very happy where she is. We spent the night in Front Royal because my arthritis can't take 14 hours of riding in the car.

We are on week 5 of school..and although we may not be getting it all done, we are making steady progress. That is all I strive for these days.

Soccer has started for Mark and Laura and they are tired...the first week of practice is pretty hard after a summer of just fun.

Our Little League Association has started "fall ball" and Luke and Grace will start baseball and softball soon. I think it is great for the town to be offering this for the kids that don't play soccer.

I have started a cross-stitch project. I used to enjoy cross-stitching and thought it would be nice to relax with it in the evenings. I may have picked a kit that was too hard for me though...but I will keep trying to keep those little stitches in the correct place.

That was our week...and I believe it is only going to get busier as we get into fall.

Have a great week, everyone!

All of our summer company has finally gone their separate ways and we are down to just the 4 of us again. I'm trying to adjust my cooking to reflect that smaller number but sometimes I forget I don't have to automatically double every recipe now!LOL!
My garden is producing like gangbusters and I am debating whether to freeze or can this year. I am especially fond of a new crop for me--Dragon Tongue beans--so colorful and tasty!
We have been spending lots of time at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is just a short drive from here, so my daughter can swim and my son can practice his photography. He loves it so much and is becoming quite accomplished. He has decided he wants it to be his major at college (next year!). Here is one of his photos:

So, all in all, a pretty good week!

Happy Anniversary!!!

Our exchange student will be here tomorrow night! That's exciting news. We're done re-arranging the house and organizing her room. It was a lot of work, but I'm so glad it's done!

Happy anniversary, Angie!

Started school this week -- and oh, it feels good to be back in the swing of things. Not that my two main schoolers feel that way all the time . . . we've already had some moaning, and I already know all too well how Son #2 feels about Old Testament stories (every time you open the Bible, there's a famine. This is an outrage.), but *I* am enjoying what we're doing. I am also enjoying seeing that they haven't totally forgotten everything they ever knew over the summer. I think the fallow time has done us worlds of good. But I really do welcome this more purposeful season.

Son #1, Grade 9, started a general biology class at Belmont Abbey today. His comment: "Some people didn't seem as interested as they might have been." OK, probably they have not been growing e.coli bacteria in the bathroom closet all year, either, dude. Or obsessively checking books on the history of virology out of the library. I'm guessing, anyway.

Put Daughter #1 on the plane back to Texas yesterday, for her sophomore year at UD. She managed to get there without toothpaste, and also had to borrow sheets from her friend, because they didn't get to the storage unit in time. Today she seems a little more acclimated, having gotten a ride to Wal-Mart. She's an orientation leader and very excited to have the new freshmen arrive on Friday. (and oh, does that seem like yesterday . . . )

Went to Mass this evening for the feast of the Queenship of Our Lady, and then had choir practice. I'm one of two volunteer/amateur directors for our choir, and this year I'm making an Advent Lessons and Carols service happen, because I'm a former Anglican and it's just been too long since I sang in an Advent Lessons and Carols service. So tonight we started practicing Advent music . . . it was great. Bumpy, and I'm rethinking some of my choices, but great. AND we learned a very cool Byzantine-chant setting for the St. Michael prayer, which we're going to do for an Offertory antiphon all through September. Much to be excited about.

Theresa, I love that picture. We need to head your way. "Our" mountains are to the north and east of you, in the Blowing Rock/Boone area, and we go there often to play in creeks, hike, and just be in the beauty -- but I love that Great Smokies thing, too.

Happy Anniversary, Angie! Very impressive, 25 years!

We had a nice visit with my MIL in PA this weekend. She was celebrating her birthday, and we enjoy the visit.

Other than that, life's a blur. Nothing to report, but just busy.

Happy anniversary, Angie!

We started school this week and so far things are going well. I am concerned that my 10 yr old has a bit too much work, but i also think the challenge will be good for her. I'm trying to walk that line between challenging and overwhelming... I feel like I have enough space in my life at this point to offer enough help to make this go well for her. That was not the case at the beginning of last school year! Having a baby in mid sept is rough. If we are ever in that situation again I am going to radically change our school year dates!! But with the little guy almost one and our outside commitments at a minimum, things are working well. Now if I can just keep the outside commitments at bay... I feel like I have learned a lot about priorities in the last couple of years!
