Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last week a bunch of us connected, 21 friends to be exact! It was wonderful!

This week, how about we have a little contest to increase that number?! Shout out what you are doing, what's on your mind, or simply say "Hi":) Everything counts!

If just 22 members or more join in, we can call ourselves WINNERS all day! What else in your day is going to be THIS easy .

***************

All is holding steady this week. Looking back on last week's post, I'm settling into my new blog (here's my new post Theater shooting, grieving) & my 16yo has made an important decision (will tell you next week cause its still under wraps) , still reading aloud same books (sometimes we can literally only grab 10 minutes!) And I am laughing, totally mortified that...

My 3 tables of paperwork are STILL in the hallway!! OK, next week, they had better be gone.

We painted my bathroom and its almost accessorized . My 13yo is painting and decorating the other bathroom this week.

So good to see everyone . Thanks for playing!

I'm saying a Hail Holy Queen for your intentions, right now .

Love,

still swim team

But less than a week and that'll be done.

We're going to take the kids to see "Brave" tonight. Though between swim team and the movie we're stumped on dinner.. I figure I'll feed the kids sandwiches or something early and then popcorn at the movie

I wanted to "shout out" last week but was visiting at my mom's house in Oregon - 30th high school reunion - woohoo...and didn't have much time to be on computer (though I read all your posts in that thread!).

So having just had my high school reunion - I'm still thinking of lots of things '82 - like Rick Springfield and JOhn Cougar, Gunne Sax dresses, and E.T. ("phone home")/

Lots of catching up to do this week after having family in town then being gone for a week. Today I have two meetings for planning for next year - one for our high school enrichment program and one for the little local co-op for my 12 year old. I have to get our website up for the enrichment prgram this week and switch over our homeschool support group members to a new communication provider/service. Have to finish up some final closing details for our conference which was held earlier in the month.

But I just want to relax and enjoy the final week of July!!!!

I think this week is much better. We have started back to school, but we are moving very slowly! I have a weeks worth of lessons that we need to complete in two weeks. Youngest decide he wanted to go to VBS at a local church and my oldest has signed up for a hunters education class that is two days next week. And I volunteered to watch a friends kids 1-2 days next week. With all this other stuff going on, I decided a slow start to school would work better. We so need to be back on a routine, so I didn't want to delay. I really need to work on a better summer rountine for next year!

Hubby and I also had a good heart to heart which helped to.

We have started school this week. We are also starting slowly. I have most of the plans set for my 5th grade dd...but for my 2 first graders things a little more up in the air. In fact, ds-7 seems to have forgotten everything from "last year", and that was only 3 weeks ago.

We are putting the finishing touches on our Olympic lapbook. Everyone has learned a lot about the ancient and modern Olympics.

It has actually been too hot to do much outside...no trips to the beach or hiking..but hopefully it will cool down a bit so we can enjoy nature.

Hubby and I enjoyed 2 days in the beautiful Adirondack mountains for our 26th anniversary this past week. It was wonderful to have some time together..alone!

We are heading to The Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville on Friday. We have been reading about Saint Isaac Jogues and will read about Blessed (soon to be Saint) Kateri Tekakwitha. We are all looking forward to this "field trip"!

Nice day so far.

I brought my boys to martial arts, and then was able to sit and have a nice talk with my MIL while they were there. I haven't had a heart-to-heart with her in years. It was so nice.

Now we're home and just had lunch. We read some more of Damien of Molokai: Hero of Hawaii.   My 6YO thinks it's just getting to the good part now that there have been stories of volcanoes and tsunamis.

Quiet afternoon, I hope.

I'm at my mother's house in Memphis, with my older son. Mom is preparing to move, though at the same time she's uncertain, having committed to a house in a retirement community, because her house hasn't sold. So we've been back and forth about what might be the best thing for her to do, and meanwhile, I've been decanting much of the contents of her house into my van, to take back to my house -- so I'm simultaneously decluttering and cluttering, all in one fell swoop.

Older son came along to carry boxes, and I'm very glad he did! We've scored some good books, plus dishes and glassware for which I will have to come up with a special event (not that this bothers me: I love dishes and glassware!), baskets, two old butter churns, a Pyrex dish in a size I really needed, and much, much more! My husband is going to turn a little pale.

Other kids are home with Dad; 18yo was going to work today, and 10- and 8yos have YMCA swim camp. Hopefully all's going well there . . .

Anyway, that's my Wednesday.

Sally

We went to see the relics at a Treasures of the Church display last week, and it was fascinating. I wish I could have calmed my soul to really partake in a devout way, but first my oldest almost passed out during the priests talk (it was hot and he was getting graphic with the Maria Goretti story , this dd does not do blood well, LOL) and then making sure my 4yo didn't break anything...well, my mind was not quiet. I was kinda hoping for a miracle, there...or three.

We are back in the thick of school for a week before my oldest two spend next week at a day camp - a service camp run by a local church.

Can I ask for prayers? For mental/physical health for my parents/dh/myself/kids... and wisdom? Same old same old going on here, just worse. I'm at a loss.

Sorry to be a downer! Let's see - some good things: it's not 100 degrees here today! The sky is such a pretty blue. And I'm enjoying setting up a sort of check box system for my 14yo's school work for the year.

to all of you!

I'm in the midst of VBS at church this week. I'm co-director, so it is crazy, but fun. I hate to admit, but I'm feeling a little burnt out and am rather anxious for the week to be over. I've run the program for the last couple of years and I had a hard time fitting it all in this year - feeling stretched too thin. I think it is time to pass the torch to another volunteer (although I know our Pastoral Associate, who will ultimately have to recruit someone new, is going to be disappointed).

So I'm drinking some extra tea and I need to make sure to spend a little time in prayer (I may sneak away to the bathroom so my kids will give me 5 minutes, lol), so I can get my heart and mind in the right place today.

We had a really fun time with our Swedish friends. They are perfect houseguests, and we had so many interesting discussions about government, culture, etc. Dancing Daughter loved her camp (that is a huge understatement) but our stories about our Swedish friends made her wish she'd met them, too.

Now, of course, she wants to go to Sweden.

I am supposed to be catching up on work this week, ha ha ha. I will have some time this weekend, as my husband and daughter will be indulging their love of all things anime and won't be home during the day.

And the best news of the week: My niece got a job!!! Thank you, St. Joseph, for your intercession!

Amy, I will gladly pray for you. It's hard to detach from an endlessly-repeating situation.

Last week I didn't get online until Thursday and was really sorry to have missed this opportunity.

We've just begun our 2nd week of vacation in Sweden and are really relaxing and growing closer together as a family. My 2 oldest are sharing a room and I like what I am seeing

I am reading a lovely book on Hildegard of Bingen by Wilhelm Huehnerman called "Das Lebendige Licht". I also have 2 other books on my night stand. "Stages on the Road" by Sigrid Undset and a book the Jenn recommended on her blog about Teresa of Avila "Conversation with Christ" by Peter Thomas Rohrbach.
I am listening to podcasts from Catholic Answers-very informative.

Tomorrow we will celebrate St. Anne's Feast as the Name Day of my oldest dd. Unfortunately we won't make it to Holy Mass for reasons I've mentioned in the Sweden thread.

I think I will go out to pick blueberries after supper...

Also keep getting chased out of the pool by thunderstorms

I was at the CiRCE conference last week. It was amazing, but I am so thankful to be back at home with my kids! I missed them so much!!!

We are doing karate belt tests this weekend! TANG SOO!!!

I am running around like a chicken trying to keep up with my grandsons who are visiting. I forgot how much energy they take! Wowsers!
Also having lots of fun re-aquainting ourselves with our old stomping grounds here in NC. We've enjoyed a few hikes in the Great Smokies park (including Clingman's Dome where it was a lovely 63 degrees!Ahhhhh!), swimming in the Oconoluftee river in Cherokee, and paddling down the Tuckaseegee, trying our best to stay cool.
Other than that, just gardening and trying to slowly get the house in order so we can gradually ease into learning mode this fall.

We just finished folding all the laundry from the 10 day trip. YAY! And this morning we went mini-golfing at the local "black light" golf course with some wonderful new friends. Rest of the day will be quiet (hopefully)! Praying for rain and lots of it here.

Today I am trying to stay quiet and slow because I am tired! My teething 10 month old is not sleeping well and I am trying to be nice to myself. So far I have deadheaded flowers in the garden, picked about a dozen cucumbers (not enough to make pickles, but I think they will get eaten - the kids polished off four at lunch today!), started feeding the sourdough to make bagels tonight (and pancakes for breakfast tomorrow, yum!) and well, laundry, prayer, read-alouds, the usual sort of stuff.

I am thinking a lot about blogging, why it appeals or me, why I don't do it anymore, and why I like to read them. I think I blogged so that people would know me, but then I found that few read what I wrote. I blogged to feel like I was joining the greater conversation, but again if no one reads what you write, are you really joining in? I like sharing useful stuff I have found or created, but those are the posts that take the longest to put together... And is that really the best use of my time, especially if no one is reading?

I think this all points to why I like this board so much - I can still help out and answer and ask questions, and I know I am actually interacting with people, not just blathering into the ether.

So, anyway, there's my Wednesday! Time to move some laundry and try to get the baby down for a nap.

Amber

I have to converse -- your posts are all so juicy!

I want one of those butter churns, Sally!

And Melinda, send some of those storms here! Today isn't as hot, but somehow we have not had a drop of rain with all those storms going by! Impossible!

We're doing rain dances, snow dances, money dances...

I have not updated my blog in a while. While I think it does contribute to the bigger conversation, I only blog for me. I write (and wrote) when I felt moved and wanted to share, but most of the time I didn't think I was even being read, and that was okay. It was my record, my journal. I made it public for friends to peek in if they wished, but I wasn't writing for them. Does that make sense? Lately I have had interior conversations, lots of thinking, but not feeling motivated to write it.

SAINT Hildegard -- isn't that cool? Happy feast of St. Anne to everyone. That is my middle name.

Joann, have a wonderful trip to the Shrine. I'm feeling all focused on these holy martyrs and soon-to-be SAINT Kateri Tekakwitha, that I've been gathering reading for these saints. So glad to hear you had a nice anniversary get away.

I want to go to CIRCE some year. It sounded fabulous.

Loving hearing all the field trips, summer goings on, and garden updates!

So what's going on with us?

I'm trying to put blinders on. There is total chaos on our family living level. DH jumped into painting the main level. It is starting to look wonderful, but the shifting of furniture, wall hangings, window treatments, painting supplies, etc....well, I'm trying to not let it bother me TOO much. This is a spring and summer I feel like I can't catch my breath, one thing to the next, and this project came right after I stepped off the plane.

Let me talk you out of hanging wallpaper. It's not a good idea. Also painting brown walls. I'm amazed at how cheery and bright just the first coat of paint makes. This brown must have been yanking my energy every day. We're going with a creamy yellow in the den and kitchen (combined open space) and the living room and dining room will be a light gray/green/blue.

But starting one area makes you see how everything else needs to be updated. Window treatments (hence the thread), and kitchen cabinets, floors. Again, blinders, right? Baby steps!!! Dh wants a new kitchen, but I know reality for now will probably be painting the cabinets. My SIL's sister just did it in the same kitchen floor plan, so I'm taking notes and planning.

Weekend plans will be visiting with MIL and SIL. Today I had a nice little visit with my mother, showing her my sewing machine, chatting about life. Love our visits!

DS1 finishing up a 4 day pitching and catching drill camp. He's really enjoying baseball, and I'm enjoying the role of Baseball Mom.

Potager is straining from the heat and dryness, but it's been a joy to start harvesting. Tomatoes are finally ripening. The garden is worth it's price when the boys are nurturing the garden, recognizing the different plants, harvesting, weeding, protecting. I also planted lots of flower seeds, so we've had our first Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies visit. My deck flower boxes are attracting hummingbirds, so we're really enjoying our backyard nature.

There have been a few outside emotional strains that we're trying to handle as a family. Grace has been sufficient, but it still doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt.

I'm still coming down from my high of visiting Denver and the RMCHEC. It was such a blast! But my reality is I haven't planned AT ALL. We won't start until late August or Labor Day, but that isn't very far away. So, maybe I need blinders over some rose-colored glasses and just start plugging away. I really appreciate all the sharing of how you are planning and scheduling. I'll have to go through all those old threads, but they are helpful!

Prayers for all of your intentions, and please say a few for mine!

Happy to join in again today!!

It's been fun reading what y'all are up to! We are a very industrious crew!!!

** I finished all the clothing purchases needed for the wedding we're in. Cue angels singing!!! And cue dancing bananas...

** Another week of school, and this is the first year my lesson plans that I built in the summer have needed only minor tweaking as we started living them. After 12 years, by George, I think we've finally got it. -- Now, what is the first thing that pops in my mind after saying that? -- Pride goes before destruction. Seriously though, we're really enjoying our books and lessons so far, and the children had an amazing Natural History experience rehabilitating a baby Purple Martin that fell from its nest during the terrible heat wave. They raised it (in my bathroom....sigh....I must give over my master bathroom to science sometimes!     ) until it fledged and was flying (again...around my bathroom ) and then we handed it over to a wildlife group that will get "Pete" back with his migrating group! Great lessons learned!!!!!

** My potager is just dismal. The 100+ temps we had, and continue to have, are wreaking havoc. Like Jenn, we're only just starting to get tomatoes (and we usually start harvesting in early June). But my berry orchard is doing well and so is my herb garden.

** I think I'm keeping up - PRAISE GOD!! I hope to be able to reward myself tonight with a nice glass of Chardonnay and my Chesterton magazine!

And I have Mary to thank - I have had Rick Springfield tunes rolling through my head all day!

Offering a Hail Mary for all of your intentions right now!

We're in our third week of school--lots going on! This week's art project is fingerpainting, so I'll be heading out to get the kids' swimsuits on and let them go to town in the backyard just as soon as I get my poor teething baby down for a nap.

Cleaning and baking tomorrow, park on Friday.

And we just had a new nephew born last night!
