Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

As my kids get older, I have been looking to replace some of their toys with more "big kid" stuff, especially for this summer when it is so hot out.

BUT, I am not looking to spend a lot of money, so I have been trying to be creative. So far, here is what I've come up with:

Brushed off our jump ropes and got the Anna Banana jump rope rhyme book from the library. That has been really fun.

Bob and Larry's How to Draw (Veggie Tales) Got this from Amazon for $3.99 (shipped free with Prime). My kids loved Veggie Tales in their younger days, and this is a neat behind the scenes look at how to draw them. Very fun- costs less than a Happy Meal

Kapla 50 Ideas cards
Scored this set at Tuesday Morning for $1.99, and w are using it with the City Blocks we've had for a couple of years (Costco). There are some really cool designs in there!

My Tuesday Morning has a lot of puzzles (my kids picked out a 3-D Angry Bird puzzle... sigh) plus a lot of Play Mobile for cheap right now. We picked up a couple of small sets, under $10, to refresh our Playmobil scene.

I used my PBS credits to pick up several Klutz books that have been big hits... especially the Tricky Pictures book (for taking fun digital pictures).

Speaking of digital cameras, we are playing a new game with ours...
one person is the judge and gives a topic, such as "something that starts with the letter B", and the rest have to go and find something to photograph that fits the bill. The judge picks the best photo, and the winner gets to be the judge and pick the topic.

One day I "set" the table in our learning room with everything needed for painting with water colors... paper of all sizes, water in pretty cups, paper towels and a selection of brushes, plus the paints. I left it for the kids to find on their own. That spurred a week of painting.

Those are a few of my ideas.... just thought I would share!

great ideas, melinda!

I did a similar photography thing with my oldest. I gave him a little checklist of things to find and take pictures of around the house.. (ie. something that starts with the letter "B", something purple, your favorite toy, etc.)
He loved it and it kept him busy for a good while.

It's not exactly "summer fun" but when we've gone to the Mountain Man rendezvous we've been teaching the kids period correct (or close) games so they've learned to play hopscotch, jacks and pick up sticks. We've also come up with some tossing games like a precursor to horseshoes.. drawing a circle in the dirt and tossing a token into the circle type of things.
