Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My oldest will turn 16 in a couple of weeks and she would really like to invite a couple of girls over to celebrate. I am at a loss as to planning for her birthday "party". She suggested pizza and watching a movie together. But then they just sit there for 2 hours and eat???? We still have daylight until after 9pm, so maybe something outside????
We are financially limited. I checked on line for ideas and I almost cried. Some people really plan a "coming out" party for a girl's 16th, money is no problem. I really want to make it special for her without us going broke. Also, considering that she has 3 younger sisters I don't want to raise any great expectations from the younger crowd!
We also don't do sleepovers. (I am such a party pooper )
Please help me with good, fun, wholesome and inexpensive inspiration!!!!

What about a craft project? There are many ideas that use recycled materials and wouldn't cost too much..

You could have each girl bring 4-6 photos and each make a scrapbook page.

Or some sort of game night. Either a board game type (catch phrase is a great one!) or do some "ice breaker" type games. (There is a really fun one called the Left Right Game that I have seen for showers and Christmas, I am sure you could find a birthday one too)

Hope that helps! I will try to think of some more

I was also thinking of playing games together, but nothing more concrete.
Hannah has a passion for all things Jane Austen, but unfortunately has no girlfriends here that share this interest. Otherwise we could play "Mr. Darcy invites you to tea..." or some such made up game...

I think maybe you should just go with what she wants. Very rarely do teens just sit and watch a movie ie lots of talking.    This sounds like she wants something low key so don't worry be happy Annie

I made cute sandwiches all rolled up with fancy teacups and a fruitbowl- that was our Jane Austen party! Decidedly low budget too.

What about doing Manicures and Pedicures for each other?
Or making some home made facial scrubs/masks and have a spa party.

I just did a quick search and picked the first one I saw that offered recipies. I am sure there are a million more, and they don't have to be expensive.

Here are some search results for an At Home Manicure.

I agree--I would just stick with the movie-and-snacks idea if she's happy with that!

What a relief!
I don't know why I put so much pressure on myself? Honestly, I don't even have the energy for more.

The other ideas are very sweet and doable, but it is probably just better to not TRY too much (speaking for my own person). Another good example of "less is more".

Thank you all for your input! If someone has a good movie suggestion, I'm all ears

My dd and her best friend love to watch "kid movies" that they enjoyed when they were little (Veggie Tales, etc.).

Silly fun is definitely fun!
