My son is really into what he calls funky music and loves to tune his radio into music stations. This morning, listening to him sing along to that "moves like jagger" song and then an ad for contraception come on, was the last straw.
We don't have much funky Christian music, just one cd from years ago. Does anyone - or your teens/Tweens!! - have any ideas for up tempo, "funky", dance along Christian CDs/bands? I have no idea how the iPod/download thing works but could do a cd or two in his Easter basket.
(he also wants styling wax/spray to do "funky" things with his hair. And has been wearing an army surplus Russian hat for days because he saw a big boy wearing one at his climbing club. Is this puberty or something?!)

My kids really like Tobymac's music. You can hear some clips of his music on Amazon.
Hope this helps!

Matt Maher for sure. He is Catholic and has a bunch of albums now with songs ranging from slow and beautiful to what you described above. Just do a search and you'll find a bunch of his stuff.
We're in love with Audrey Assad, Catholic, but she might be better for the gals out there.
Do you get K-LOVE, a Christian radion station, where you live? Matt Maher's stuff is actually on there now. There are tons of awesome Christian/Catholic music that I think your son would really like.
Ike Ndolo. Love him, too. Also Catholic.
You could also go to the Pandora sight and listen to some of their Christian stuff. You'll be able to see band names that way.
I can post links tomorrow. Sleeping toddler in arms at the moment.

You can use itunes and sometimes amazon or youtube to listen to music clips before you buy. I'm not sure what you mean by "funky," but off the top of my head some bands that come to mind:
Newsboys
Toby Mac
DC Talk
FFH
Jars of Clay
Our semi-local Christian station is online (KSBJ). They also run NGEN radio, a station that plays Christian rock and hip hop geared towards teens/young adults. They have a link on their homepage so that you can listen online.

A band that opened for Casting Crowns in our town recently was Royal Tailor. Very talented, and I would say very funky... reminded me of NSYNC or Backstreet Boys maybe?
I second Newsboys, they are awesome!

I second Matt Maher, he is awesome! I saw him, Trevor Morgan and Third Day in concert two night ago. There were tons of young people in the crowd, not just for oldies like me.
You might want to give Mercy Me a try also.
I still hear my teenagers singing along to our christian radio station which is all I listen to in the car. I'm sure they'll deny it if you ask them though.

You can get Christian music from The FISH radio - sample a few songs, see what you like and then buy them from itunes.

I have no idea about music genres because my prefered styles are baroque and gregorian chant! But I have looked up the sort of music he likes and it is called disco pop or electro pop. Thanks for all the ideas!

Lucy,
Look up Owl City. I'm pretty sure it's electro pop. I'm also pretty sure he is Catholic. His songs are funky and I've never heard a bad lyric. His song, Galaxy, is about God and it's good - my whole family likes it and all of his music. His songs have been on regular stations, not Christain ones, but I highly recommend him.
