Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What are the different ways to pronounce 'au' in Latin, or is it the same with both the classical and ecclesiastical forms?

'au' is pronounced very similarly whether it is classical or ecclesiastical pronunciation.

CLASSICAL
'ow' as in how

Aurelius - Ow-ree-lee-oos
(This pronunciation the chin sort of juts forward more, whereas....)

ECCLESIASTICAL
'ou' as in house

Aurelius - Ou-ree-lee-oos
(....this pronunciation is a little smoother when it is said)

This is a fantastic page for helping to understand Latin pronunciations and the entire site is a Treasury of Latin prayers of the Church. (all ecclesiastical pronunciation)

Okay, Jen, how did you know to pick that example??    We're currently considering all the various pronunciations of Aurelia.

Okay, it must be in the Filipino in me but my "ow" as in "how" and my "ou" as in "house" sound exactly the same.    I need to hear a recording! LOL

I've been trying to figure out the Italian, Polish, Romanian, Latin, and English pronunciations of Aurelia, and it is confusing without any recordings. Different dialects seem to greatly affect it. Right now, I think I'm leaning toward the Polish pronunciation because I think that version may be mispronounced less here in Alabama.
