that will help our boys' scout troop get organized.
Right now, they've got a Yahoo calendar through Yahoogroups. It's not meeting their needs. What they need is a group calendar that
sends out an e-mail and requires people to answer Yes No Maybe
AND
send out reminders of the event, to the entire group.
We use Google in our family, but it's easy because all of us are on Gmail and hubby's software at work takes anything he says yes to and adds it on to his calendar.
The problem with using Google calendar for the group is that it only sends reminders to the event creator, not to everyone.
They have reminders sent out right now through Yahoogroups, but hubby (the Scoutmaster) wants to use ONE system instead of the two they have to use right now.
Any tech-savvy suggestions from you lovely ladies? Thanks in advance!

Have you looked into Cozi, Stef?
One person could set it up, and it you can alert via text or email. You can share with various calendars (google, ical - go to the Cozi Calendar, click Share appointments.) Another benefit is the option to add parent's phones for texting - the calendar will automatically send a reminder text to any phones registered with your Boy Scout cozi account. I'm not sure it would meet all of your needs....but thought it might really be worth checking out. It's free.

I was just thinking that in addition to having a calendar, the lists could be useful. There are ways to make lists on Cozi (to-do are nice because they can be shared with the entire group, or assigned to particular people only). You could keep camping supplies listed, or you could list upcoming events, or a list of snacks/whatevers for a particular parent that volunteered to bring it to an upcoming event.
Cozi works on the computer as well as offering apps to manage via your phone (all integrated in real time - so if you I add something to a list on my laptop, my husband can see it at the same time on his phone.)

The negative side of Cozi is that it sends reminders through messaging, not emails. If you had a limit on text messages, I find that a negative. Maybe there was something I missed?

One of our homeschool groups just joined Meet Up and I'm enjoying it much better than our old yahoo group. I'm not sure but I think there is a fee to set up , but it is wonderful. You can download pictures, create RSVP counts, keep calendars, send reminders, discussions and keep it private by moderator.

Just to be clear.. google calenders does let you recieve notifications of events you don't set up.. but each person must set it up in their account, it can't be done centrally.
