Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last year we found a great solution to keeping the raccoons, deer, rabbits etc. out of our garden. We didn't want to use chemicals and the garden is quite large so building a fence would have been costly. So, we did two things: 1st, we saved the hair from when my dh cut the boys hair, and we saved the hair from our dog when we brushed her. This was sprinkled around the perimeter of the garden. 2nd, and probably most effective, we made a "scarecrow" out of my dh's clothes after he had worn them in the garden on a hot day!!    I know it sounds really grose, but it really worked. If he worked in the garden on Saturday or did something heavy duty outside, his clothes had a certain, shall I say "perfume" about them. Hanging these clothes in the garden kept the critters away for at least a day or two. Of course, it doesn't last as long as some of the chemicals you can buy but it is a cheap alternative. (I hope I haven't grosed some of you out too much - stinky clothes and hair - yuck!)
